What a difference a month makes! Request your ballot today.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

What a difference the interval of a month makes. Two months ago on March
13, 2020, at the beginning of our understanding of what the pandemic would
look like, Hanover Schools were closed. Town Hall closed to the public
shortly thereafter. Our world certainly changed since then.

A month later on April 13th, the application for the first-ever Early
Ballots by Mail for the June 27th, 2020 Annual Town Election became
available right here on ATOTW. Since then we’ve seen Candidate’s Night via
Zoom and Candidate Information Sheets sent via ATOTW. For more information
go to:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=CPOGEhPNMjGi5kY3/L9vi5eUtwLGavpJlTG2WhN8DqxoqLt7nDPYRqoN783ZLADJ
. We’ve sent out over 300 ballots to date – a good start!

So, I’ll suggest that today, another month later, May 13th, is the day to
request your Early Ballot by Mail. We’re just over 6 weeks away from
Election Day, and the complete request-return process could take a month.
We’ve got two competitive races – for Selectman and with the recent
addition of a declared write-in candidate, also for School Committee. For
more information, go to:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=4wyDhNXFSBuPoiER1Wano5eUtwLGahpJlTG2WhN8DqxoqLt7nDMYRqoN783ZLADJ
. Don’t miss out on your chance to vote by mail! Why choose between your
health and your civic duty?

It’s easy, and it’s all about your signature on this application:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=9XjV017AC7ayt2Dda+e5DZeUtwLGakpJlTG2WhN8DqxoqLt7nDOIRqoN783ZLADJ
. Print it out, fill it out, SIGN IT, and get it back to us via an email
to catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov , via the front door drop-off
slot to Town Hall at 550 Hanover Street, or by snail mail to the Town
Clerk’s Office, 550 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA 02339.

Democracy must go on!

A grandmother’s plea…let’s care for each other

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

While this information was widely reported last week and is readily
available on the web, today was the first time I actually sat down and read
the Governor’s order and guidance related to wearing masks. I did so at
the request of a Hanover grandmother, who was very concerned about the lack
of mask-wearing while she was out in public on Thursday, 5/7. She asked if
I would, and I am happy to forward this information to all of you as a
result of her concern.

Here’s the Executive Order:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=K3QIlcpF32u8ojqMg2nEOVZdF1fRvdGosxHLWZF29o5oqLt7nDNIRqoN783ZLADJ

And attached please find the guidance. Why not print it out and talk to
your family about it?

Let’s take care of each other by wearing a mask. “02339 Together”!

Dave Jodka Scholarship for Future Rockers

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover-based South Shore Conservatory (SSC) invites applications for the
Dave Jodka Scholarship for Future Rockers. Established in 2016, the
scholarship offers high school music students the opportunity to
participate in a high quality, coached rock band at SSC, underwritten in
memory of Dave Jodka, an inspired rock aficionado. The scholarship
provides an opportunity for rock students from all backgrounds to learn the
art and business of contemporary and rock music, and experience the love of
music that Jodka inspired in his family and in his life.

Dave Jodka, who died in 2014, loved to rock. From the moment he attended
his first concert, his life was forever changed. Over the course of his
life, Jodka grew in musicianship by playing guitar, bass, drums and
singing. As an adult, he worked in finance for more than 20 years, but
still remained faithful to his pursuits in music. A family man who resided
in Scituate with his wife Kathleen and four children, Jodka passed away
from cancer, inspiring friends and family to embark on a journey to keep
his memory alive through the creation of the Mad Love Music Festival, which
premiered at SSC in October, 2015. The annual festival features renowned
local musicians and activities for music lovers of all ages. Proceeds from
Mad Love fund the Dave Jodka Scholarship for Future Rockers.

The Future Rockers scholarship is open to high school student musicians
(current and non-SSC students) who are interested in joining a hardworking,
active, and committed rock band. The band represents SSC and Future Rockers
in the community with public performances at venues such as The Middle East
Up, New World Tavern, the C-Note, Innersleeve Records, and more. They have
been featured on WCVB’s Five for Good, and recorded several albums and
EPs that can be found on Spotify and Bandcamp. The band has recorded at Mad
Oak Studios in Allston. As a recipient of the Future Rockers Scholarship,
musicians will participate in weekly ensemble coaching, recording sessions,
songwriting and composition practice, DIY shows with other student-bands,
creating and distributing merchandise, and booking venues.

Applicants should possess a good mastery of their instrument/voice (at
least three years of study), a true passion for working with an ensemble
and performing in public, and must be willing to commit to the band for a
12-month period from June 2020 through June 2021.

The band will perform at the sixth annual Dave Jodka Mad Love Music
Festival on October 11, 2020 at SSC’s Jane Carr Amphitheater in Hingham,
and perform at other venues throughout the year. Students must be
available for coaching for 1.5 hours a week on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to
7:00 p.m. at SSC’s Duxbury campus, at 64 St. George Street, starting in
June 2020. Coaching will continue through the summer (with some
flexibility), culminating in a three-day intensive.

Applicants are required to complete the form at
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=KSAUG60FDO26lV14bA2ToCY+tx5wjskDs0keLN10i7poqLt7nDNYRqoN783ZLADJ
and submit a two-minute performance video playing their instrument(s)
and/or singing. All application materials are due by May 15,2020.
Applicants selected for a call back audition will be notified by email.

For information about SSC events, performances and programs, please visit
sscmusic.org or follow South Shore Conservatory on Facebook, Twitter, or
Instagram. For more information about this program, please contact Erik
Caldarone at e.caldarone@sscmusic.org .
