Community arts grants applications available

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Apply now for community arts grants through the Hanover Cultural Council!

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs are
due October 15th.

Have you ever wondered what happens with the funds raised at Hanover Day?
Money from our annual celebration, plus Hanover’s share of state cultural
funds, is used to support arts, science, and humanities projects throughout
the year.

The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15, 2019 deadline for
organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants to fund
cultural activities in Hanover. These grants can support a variety of arts,
science, and humanities projects, including exhibits, festivals, field
trips, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops,
and lectures.

Past events have included the Summer Concert Series by the Parks and
Recreation Department, the Drama Club Dinner Theater programs at South
Shore Vo-Tech, funding for the Hanover Performing Arts Company, Pastel
Painting Workshops, the Annual Hanover Day Art Exhibit, Museum of Science
Outreach program at Cedar Elementary School, several museum passes and
children’s programs at the John Curtis Library, and sponsorships of
programs for the Walnut Hill Garden Club, South Shore Natural Science
Center, Hanover senior center, and many others.
This year’s allocation to Hanover from the Massachusetts Cultural Council
is $6,200, and additional funds are available thanks to the past success of
Hanover Day. The Council will meet later this fall to review the
applications and award the grants.

The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The state
legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural
Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
Local councils are allowed to raise additional money through events like
Hanover Day.

Applications and more information about the program are available online at
www.mass-culture.org.
For more information, see the attached flyer or contact Chris Haraden,
Hanover Cultural Council Chairman at (781) 254-3131, or
charaden@comcast.net.

Hanover Club re-boot

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Sometime in mid-August, a version of the below e-mail went out on “Around
Town on the Web”. While it is normally our practice to never send
reminders (we clog up your in-boxes enough as it is!), we had some
technical difficulties during the course of sending this e-blast AND the
Hanover Club changed the location of this event. (I am personally
delighted that they have moved it to 3Brothers – one of my favorite new
venues in town!) Long story short, all of this warranted a revised
broadcast; hence the following!

The Hanover Club’s Annual Welcome Back Social is September 5th at 7:30
p.m., hosted by Co-Presidents Bea Murphy and Tracy Fry at 3Brothers Grille
Bar and Restaurant, 778 Washington Street. Light appetizers and beverages
will be served. This event is open to both members and non-members and is a
wonderful opportunity to come meet neighbors, make new friends and find
opportunities to participate in community service and social events
throughout the year. Whether you’re new to Hanover or have been here for
years, we’d love to meet you! Interested but worried that you don’t know
anyone – no worries, the club will pair you with a current board member to
introduce you.

The Hanover Club is a women’s community service and social club dedicated
to supporting women, children, families and other local efforts.

For questions, more information or to RSVP please reach out to Bea Murphy
(bghita188@gmail.com) or Tracy Fry (tracyfry@aol.com).

(Editor’s Note: Go Hanover Club! Apologies for the technical
difficulties! :))
