Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Reverend Peter Johnston will be installed on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at
2:00 p.m. as Senior Pastor at First Congregational Church of Hanover.
Reverend Johnston will become the 35th minister of the church, which was
founded in 1728. The installation is a liturgical celebration of the
covenantal relationship among the ordained minister, the local church, and
the Pilgrim Association. First Congregational is an open and affirming
congregation of the United Church of Christ.
Reverend Estelle Margarones, Interim Pastor of the First Congregational
Church, UCC of South Portland, Maine, will preach, and there will be
special music by the combined choirs of Houghs Neck, Hanover FCC, and
Quincy Point Churches. The offering will benefit the Reverend M. Alicia
Corea (Peter’s godmother and the first ordained woman minister in
southeastern Massachusetts) Scholarship Fund of the Pilgrim Association.
The church is located at 547 Hanover Street, across from Town Hall. A
reception will follow at the adjacent Riley Hall.
The sanctuary is wheelchair accessible from the front doors of the church,
and via an elevator to the sanctuary. Clergy are invited to arrive at 1:45
p.m. in the vestry in robes, and then process wearing either red or rainbow
stoles.
