Antique appraisals in Hanover

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Altrusa International, Inc. of Plymouth County will sponsor antique
appraisals on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 1 – 5 p.m. at Phoenix Lodge in
Hanover (corner of Washington and Broadway).

The South Shore’s Joan Caddigan, Auctioneer and Antique Appraiser brings her
35 years of expertise to Altrusa International’s Antique Appraisal Day. Ms.
Caddigan will discuss the state of the antique market and downsizing. She
is a member of the South Shore Dealers Association, National Auctioneers
Association and Past President of the Massachusetts Auctioneers Association
and Hanover Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Caddigan will be joined by noted
Appraiser and Antique Dealer, Henry T. Callan, from East Sandwich. Mr.
Callan has been buying and selling antiques since 1969 and is a member of
the New England Appraiser’s Association. He has a Master’s degree in
history and teaches a course on antiques. Mr. Callan will discuss Chinese
Porcelain and embroidery samplers. Paul Mueller-Reed, a well known book
appraiser from Sunderland, MA. will also be on hand to appraise antique
books. In business for 18 years, Mr. Muller-Reed is an expert on rare and
scholarly books.

All kinds of antiques will be appraised with the exception of stamps, coins
and jewelry. Appraisal for each item will be $5 (limit three items).
General Admission is $5 for those without appraisal items. All proceeds
will benefit the local charities of the Altrusa International of Plymouth
County including parties for Veterans at Brockton Hospital Facility,
providing yarn to seniors in the community to knit scarves, hats and mittens
that are then donated to children and families in need, donations to local
food pantries, support for the Rehoboth Homeless Shelter, and scholarships
to Massasoit College.
