Friends of Hanover Music Yard Sale

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Friends of Hanover Yard Sale – Saturday 9/24
Town Hall Parking Lot – 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Friends Of Hanover Music Annual Yard Sale is coming up fast on
Saturday, September 24 at the Town Hall parking lot, and this year there’s
a twist! They’ve partnered with Savers so that most anything that is not
sold at the Yard Sale can then be bagged up and donated to Savers, who will
actually pay them to give them the items! So, it’s more important than ever
that they receive as many donations as possible. Of course, they hope that
every item will be sold, but if not, it will now help them out anyway.

So mark your calendars for Saturday, September 24, and start scoping out
items around your home, garage or attic that would be put to better use
supporting music programs in our public schools. Please see the attached
flyers for more information. Unfortunately, they cannot accept TVs, CRTs,
or electronics that we would have to pay to dispose of. The sale runs 9:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and donations can be dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m.
that day, but will be accepted throughout the day if you are not able to
get there early.

Any questions can be directed to Friends of Hanover Music or
ljen909@aol.com. Spend some time with them at the yard sale, then head down
the street to B. Everett Hall Field, where the Hanover Firefighters are
putting on their wonderful annual Touch a Truck event. It should be a great
day for all!

Painting and photography exhibit

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

New Exhibit: Picturing Hanover in Paintings and Photographs

Featuring the artwork of local resident Betsey Josselyn and the
photographic collections of the Hanover Historical Society

On display at the Stetson House, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays
September 17, September 24, and October 1, 2016

This exhibit combines the artwork of local resident Betsey Josselyn and the
photographic collections of the Hanover Historical Society. A series of
twenty paintings by Josselyn will be on display throughout the historic
300-year Stetson House. These diminutive paintings are all scenes of the
local landscape in Hanover. They bring the natural, familiar landscape of
places like the North River and Forge Pond into new perspective. Paired
with each painting will be photographs drawn from the Hanover Historical
Society’s collections. The historic photographs, pieces of artwork
themselves, will complement the paintings, documenting how much Hanover has
changed, or sometimes stayed the same, over the past century and a half.
This exhibit is designed to foster an appreciation for the distinctive
character of Hanover through historic photographs and contemporary artwork.

Join Girl Scouts!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Join Girl Scouts! Registration Event September 21st

Is your daughter looking to meet new people and have fun? Girl Scouts could
be what she is looking for! Girl Scouting is for girls in grades K-12. With
the guidance of adult volunteers, Girl Scouts earn badges, explore the
outdoors, attend fun events and field trips, and participate in the Girl
Scout cookie program.

Who can join Girl Scouts?
Membership in Girl Scouts is open to all girls in grades K-12. Women and
men over 18 can join as adult members to volunteer.

What do Girl Scouts do?
Most Girl Scouts become part of a troop (a group of 10-15 girls with adult
volunteers) and meet regularly throughout the year. Troops meet 1-2 times
per month for a couple of hours with some activities being longer (e.g. a
field trip or overnight).

Are there fees to join Girl Scouts?
The annual Girl Scout membership fee is $25 for girls and $15 for adults
(financial aid is available). Many troops collect dues and participate in
the Girl Scout cookie program to help cover the cost of badges, books and
activities throughout the year.

Please join Hanover Girl Scouts at their “Open House style” Girl Scout
registration event!
When: Wednesday September 21st
Where: John Curtis Free Library, Large meeting room (1st floor)
What Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Come any time!
Who: Girls in Kindergarten and above

Come speak to girls and adults about joining or starting your own troop.
Adults are welcome to join too. They have opportunities available as Troop
Leaders and Service Unit Board Members. For more information, contact
Amanda Cole at hanovermagirlscouts@yahoo.com .

Free Narcan training session

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Friday, September 23rd at 4:00 p.m., the C.O.P.E Center will be hosting a
free Narcan training session at Hanover High School.

In the wake of the opioid epidemic in Massachusetts, Narcan has emerged as
a vital tool. The simply-administered drug blocks the effects of opioids,
especially in overdose. Anybody whose life has been affected by addiction
in any way shape or form is encouraged to take advantage of this training.

The training will be short, and participants will be given a free Narcan
kit upon completion. Please contact Joe DeFerrari (jrdef@outlook.com) to
register for the event, or with any questions. Space is limited, so the
sooner the better!

Food Pantry thank you

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Food Pantry would like to thank the community for their
generosity this summer when they found their available resources running
dangerously low. Their ability to assist needy residents was threatened
and they asked for help.

Once again, the Food Pantry’s needs were met by the thoughtfulness and
charity of neighbors. The good folks at the Food Pantry want to thank
everybody who came to their aid. In addition to the packaged and canned
foods from our shelves, they were able to assist their clients with gift
cards of $10 – $25 so they could purchase perishable items needed to
provide their families with balanced, wholesome meals.

From all of the volunteers at the Hanover Emergency Food Pantry, thank you.
