Calling all Hanover businesses!

The Town Clerk’s Office is preparing a ‘Welcome to Hanover Packet’ to
usher new residents into the town. It will be mailed out once per month to
all new residents of houses sold within that past month in Hanover. It will
include things like a town map, voter registration forms, information about
the schools, transfer station application forms, and lots of additional
useful tidbits!

The Town Clerk’s Office is looking for businesses to sponsor the
packet’s monthly mailing. For a fee of $40 (to cover the cost of printing
and shipping), they will feature your business in the packet every month
and include a coupon or other promotional material of your choosing. In one
month out of the year, they will give your business a full-page ad in the
packet. This is an excellent opportunity to get your business’s name out
to residents who may be unfamiliar with the town!

questions, or to sponsor the packet. The office is trying to finalize a
list of businesses for the following twelve month period. Please respond to
Joe by July 15th if interested.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Brush off the dictionary! The John Curtis Free Library’s annual spelling
bee will be held on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. in the large meeting room.
This is the 30th year the Library has been hosting the Bee. To celebrate
this milestone, there will be additional prizes and extra FUN!!

As has been done in the past, the bee will be split into two sections, one
for ages 13 and younger and the other for everyone over the age of 14.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three spellers in each category and the
best speller in each group will have his/her name engraved on the
library’s spelling bee trophy. So, for an old-fashioned good time, come
to the library and demonstrate your spelling skills.

Cub Scout Pack 37
Rain-gutter Regatta
Hanover Day, 6/25/16, 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Boys and girls, you’re invited to come build a sailboat and then race it on
Pack 37’s “rain gutter” track!

Mom and Dad, do you want your little boys to grow into responsible,
self-sufficient leaders? Sign them up for Cub Scouts! All boys going into
kindergarten (yes, Cub Scouts start in K now!) through grade 4 are invited
to join the pack. Adult leaders from Pack 37 will be there for the races,
and can answer any questions you have about the scouting program. FREE
uniform t-shirt with every registration.

Celebrate Hanover this weekend!

The Hanover Cultural Council’s annual community celebration is almost
here, as Hanover Day gets under way later this week.

On Thursday, June 23, the awards reception for Juried Art Show takes place
from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the John Curtis Free Library. Come meet the
artists and browse their work on display.

On Friday, June 24, Hanover’s seniors will be treated to a special BBQ
luncheon and entertainment at the Senior Center. Also, the huge carnival
opens at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 10:00 p.m. at B. Everett Hall/Sylvester
Field. Finally, view short films from some of the best independent
filmmakers in Massachusetts at the 48 Hour Film Project Boston Movie
Screening.

On Saturday, June 25, the fun begins at 9:00 a.m. with the Hanover Chamber
of Commerce Hanover Day 5K Road Race and Kids Fun Run. The race begins at
St. Mary’s Church and ends at Hanover Town Hall.
At 10 a.m., events on the main field begin — the craft fair, carnival,
entertainment on two stages, and food vendors. Check the schedule for all
of the events, including the Battle of the Bands, Hanover’s Got Talent,
craft fair, community art project, fairy houses, Stetson House tours and
artisan demonstrations, dunk tank, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and much,
much more! The daytime MC will be Jerry Thornton of WEEI, while Lisa
Azizian of WATD will host the nighttime festivities.

Come early and stay late to enjoy great food, live music and performances
by local talents, kids activities, shopping at the craft fair, and so much
more!

The celebration’s highlight is the McGee Toyota Fireworks Show on
Saturday at 9:00 p.m.!
On Sunday, June 26, the carnival continues from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. Visit

tickets also will be sold on all three days.

B. Everett Hall Field and Playground Complex is a CLOSED CAMPUS during Park
and Rec Hours
8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Monday – Friday, June 27 – August 19, 2016

The B. Everett Hall Field and Playground Complex is a CLOSED CAMPUS during
camp hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). The playground
(including the tot lot), tennis court, basketball courts, street hockey
rink, volleyball area, bandstand, fields, etc. are all not available for
use by the general public during those times. The Parks and Recreation
Department has been charged with the safety of hundreds of Hanover’s
children enrolled in the summer programs and nothing is more important!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Emergency Food Pantry has experienced a decline in cash
donations over the past few months, and as we approach summer when need
continues, but most charitable activity takes a vacation, they may need to
adjust their distributions. Their clients visit the pantry once a month.
The Hanover Food Pantry supplements their non-perishable food donations
with a gift card to each client’s family so that they can purchase those
items the pantry can’t provide – milk, eggs, cheese, meat. For example, a
single person receives a $10 gift card, family of two – $20, family of 3-4
– $25 and over – $35. The food pantry sees an average of 56 families per
month.

The Hanover Food Pantry is so grateful for all the continued support they
receive from so many people in our community – local churches, civic
organizations, school groups, girl and boy scouts, businesses, etc. Their
most recent postal drive was very beneficial, but their current needs
include some monetary contributions.

Please consider donating. Checks can be made payable to Hanover Emergency
Food Pantry, and mailed to: c/o The First Baptist Church, 580 Webster St.,

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 3:00 p.m. for the library’s
summer children’s play. This year’s production is “Diary of an
Unhealthy Kid”, a comedy/fantasy about learning to improve food and
fitness habits. It will be performed reader’s theater style, so actors do
not need to memorize their lines. They need older children who can read
and younger ones to sing and dance in the chorus. For more information,

Countdown to 65 at the Hanover Senior Center!

Many seniors are still working and have not begun to get health insurance
through Medicare. Enrolling in Medicare is a complicated process and
lifetime penalties are imposed if people do not sign up for Part B and Part
D within certain time frames. Join the good folks at the Senior Center on
Wednesday, June 22 at 6:00 p.m., as Peta Sheppard of Blue Cross Blue Shield
discusses this important topic. A light dinner will be served.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Woman’s Club, Jrs. and the South Shore Children’s Museum
are sponsoring a “Touch A Truck” event this coming Sunday, June 12th at
the Hanover Mall (J C Penney parking lot). The event runs from 10:00 a.m.
– 1:00 p.m. Along with some awesome trucks, they will have a/n school bus,
ambulance, police cars, Army jeep, mail truck and many more. Also, “Miss
Stacey” is coming to DJ the event and bringing a Bouncy House. They will
have Joe’s Crazy Critters and Face Painting. All of the above are
included in the price of Admission, $5 per person. The Children’s Museum
will also have sand art at their table for a fee.

The HWCJ will have vendors coming to sell their wares and Boy Scout Troop
#1 will be selling hot dogs, pizza, drinks, snacks, and slush.

It’s going to be a great day with lots of fun activities. Wear your
climbing shoes so you can get up in the trucks.

Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that two job postings
for election workers are now available on the town’s website.

“Every year scores of election workers work tirelessly on our Election
Days to ensure that Hanover residents are able to exercise one of the
greatest privileges of our country’s democracy, the right to vote,”
said Harder-Bernier. “With early voting and a record turn-out
anticipated in November, we’ll be very busy and will need lots of
enthusiastic staff,” she continued.

Workers are being hired in anticipation of the September 8, 2016 State
Primary Election, November 8, 2016 Presidential Election, a possible fall
school override election, and the May 6, 2017 Annual Town Election.
“Hanover’s elections are among the best well-run elections across the
state. We look forward to adding and training new members to our team of
workers”, said Harder-Bernier.
