Fishing Derby this weekend!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Three Hanover High seniors are holding a Fishing Derby on Sunday April 26th
for their Senior Humanities Project. It will be held at Luddam’s Ford in
Hanover from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. All Hanover residents ages 15 and under
are welcome to participate. See attached flyer or e-mail

Candidate’s Night

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Candidates Night, sponsored by the Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors, will
take place on Tuesday, April 28th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the
Hanover Town Hall.

The program will consist of a short presentation by each candidate running
for a town office followed by a question and answer period led by moderator
Cathy Harder-Bernier.

The forum is open to the public and voters are encouraged to take this
opportunity to learn about the candidates and their views on issues facing
the town.

Signs of Spring trail walk

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Celebrate Earth Day 2015 with the Hanover Open Space Committee for a
“Signs of Spring” Trail Walk along the Denham Pond Trails on Wed. April
22, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. during school vacation week. Rain Date: Thursday,
April 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. *Kids: Bring your grandparents if Mom and Dad
are working! There will be a “make-up day” on Sat. April 25, 2015 at
9:00 a.m. (Rain Date: Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.) for those who
are unable to make it midweek.

This special 25 acre place (#35 on the new Open Space Map) boasts of upland
trails, wetlands, and vernal pools and is teeming with numerous signs of
wildlife this time of year. Find out what really happens in a vernal pool,
as well as how the New England woodland and wetland plants and animals
start to emerge in this new season.

Parking is available in the field next to Denham Pond, which is accessed
from the Circuit Street entrance (opposite 95 Circuit Street). If the
parking area looks full, they recommend parking on Hillside Drive and
walking by foot the short distance up Circuit Street to the entrance.
Please wear sturdy shoes (not sandals), long sleeve shirt and long pants.
Be sure to bring insect repellent (one containing at least 25% deet is
recommended), water, and perhaps binoculars and a camera.

Absentee ballots are now available

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Absentee ballot applications are available now in the Hanover Town
Clerk’s Office for all voters living in Hanover wishing to vote by
absentee ballot in the May Annual Town Election. The election will be held
Saturday May 9, 2015.
Absentee ballot applications are for use by registered voters who are
unable to vote at the polls on Election Day due to:
1) Absence from the Town of Hanover during normal polling hours (8:00 a.m.
– 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9th); or
2) Physical disability preventing you from going to the polling place; or
3) Religious belief;
OR
Non-registered voters who are:
1) A Massachusetts citizen absent from the state; or
2) An active member of the armed forces or merchant marines, their spouse
or dependent; or
3) A person confined in a correctional facility or a jail, except if by
reason of felony conviction.
Applications for absentee ballots must be received by noon on the day
before the election, in this case, by noon on Friday, May 8th. For more
information about the absentee ballot application process, please call the

History of the First Congregational Church

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Historical Society and members of the First Congregational
Church of Hanover will present a history of the Church on Friday, April 24.
The Church traces its origins to the founding of the Town of Hanover in
1727. Hear how the Church served as a meeting house for the Town for the
first 100 years and that during the Revolutionary War the Town supply of
gunpowder was stored in the Church. Come to the presentation and learn
about these interesting facts and more.

The presentation is free and open to the public at the First Congregational
Church, 547 Hanover Street. A social hour with light refreshments will be
held in the Church Vestry (first floor) from 6 – 7:00 p.m. with the
presentation in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m.

Josh Perry Scholarship Golf Tournament

The third annual Josh Perry Scholarship Golf Tournament is coming up in
June and the committee is seeking sponsors and players to join them. They
are also hoping businesses and individuals will make donations. All
proceeds will go toward scholarships for seniors and tutoring for incoming
students at South Shore Vo-Tech.

HPSF Annual Fund Drive

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund is currently conducting its Annual
Fund Drive. For 38 years, HPSF has been providing financial assistance to
deserving Hanover students wishing to continue their education beyond high
school. Last year more than $35,000 was awarded to 51 applicants due to the
continued generosity of donors like you.

Brochures were mailed to most Hanover residents this week requesting your
continued support of this worthy cause. Donations may be sent to HPSF, P.O.
Box 67, Hanover. On line donations may be made at

Two Old Friends

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Back by popular demand, Emery Hutchins and James Prendergast,
affectionately known as Two Old Friends, will appear at the Hanover Library
on April 14 at 7:00 p.m. to perform some of their favorite songs from
Ireland, the mountains, and the sea accompanied by banjo, guitar, mandolin,
concertina, and bodran. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of the
John Curtis Library and there is no charge for admission. For further

Learn to repair tree damage with the Garden Club

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Garden Club is inviting the community to join them for an
evening with arborist Abraham Monahan to learn about trees and how to
repair damage from this past winter. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on
Thursday April 16th at the Phoenix Lodge in Hanover’s Four Corners. They
are looking forward to hearing your questions for the expert. If you have

HVNA annual meeting

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Visiting Nurse Association cordially invites you to attend
their annual meeting being held on Tuesday, April 14th at the Hanover Town
Hall Large Meeting Room starting at 1:00 p.m.

The VNA has been fortunate this year to have two students working with
them. A nursing student from Laboure College is doing a mentorship in
Community Health. A student from Hanover High School is doing a community
service project in communication disorders. Both students will give a
brief presentation of their experience while with the HVNA and talk about
their future plans.

Please join the HVNA for this fun program. Admission is free.
