Our new neighbor and the Helicopter Ball Drop

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Long time readers will remember the meandering chronicle of the 2 Habitat
for Humanity houses on Center Street that took years to build, but that now
are proudly inhabited by two delighted families. We officially welcomed
them to Hanover earlier this summer.

Renee Patry, one of our new neighbors, is “paying it forward” for the
next round of Habitat applicants by selling raffle tickets to a special
fundraiser at an upcoming Habitat golf tournament. I connected with her
recently and am happy to assist her efforts with this e-blast.

Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket from Renee for Habitat’s
upcoming “Helicopter Ball Drop” to be held at the tournament. Tickets
are $10 each and each one purchases you a chance to be the furthest from or
closest to the pin. You can win cash prizes ranging from $400 to $1,500!
What’s a Helicopter Ball Drop? Go to this page and scroll down to watch
the video of last year’s ball drop:
http://www.sshabitat.org/general/golf-classic.php .

Renee is so motivated to sell these tickets that she is willing to meet you
anywhere in Hanover to deliver them. Last I heard she was meeting someone
in front of Trader Joe’s! Please call Renee at 774-222-0554 or e-mail
her at rpatry85@gmail.com if you would like to support her efforts to
support Habitat for Humanity by purchasing a ticket (or two or three!).

Proceeds from the event support construction of affordable housing on the
South Shore, including their newest project in Duxbury. You need not be
present to win. For more information about the golf tournament itself,
download the brochure here:
http://www.sshabitat.org/yourfiles/assets/documents/2015-Habitat-Golf-Classic-Brochure%20_final.pdf
. The Helicopter Ball Drop will be held at 5:00 on that day.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for one of Hanover’s own

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Come support Hanover’s own Kevin Gosnell in his fight to find a cure for
ALS! Kevin is a long-time Hanover resident, graduate of the Hanover
schools, husband, and father of three sons. He is also the owner of T&K
Sealing, a company he started with a friend right after high school. A
tremendously kind, dedicated, hard-working, passionate person, Kevin has
generously donated to many organizations in the town over the years, and
could use our support, as he was recently diagnosed with ALS. Let’s join
him in the Ice Bucket Challenge at B. Everett Hall Field (near Sylvester
School in the center of town) on Wednesday, August 26th from 6:00 p.m. –
8:00 p.m.!

Ice, buckets and water will all be provided. There will be an ice cream
truck, sausage truck and a 50/50 raffle.

If anyone wants more information or to donate ahead of time, please go to
AlsKnights.org . Kevin is featured in two videos on the website currently.

A portion of all the donations raised by ALS Knights will go two places:
1. To further fund ALS research to help find a treatment and a cure
2. To assist individuals and families living in the community with ALS

In the US, about 5,600 people are diagnosed with the condition every year,
with an estimated 30,000 living with ALS at any one moment. The average
life expectancy is 2 – 5 years. There is currently NO treatment or cure
for ALS, NO drugs to take, NO surgeries to undergo, and absolutely NO
effective treatment! This is simply an underfunded disease that requires
further research.
There are many supplies and services needed at home that people living with
ALS require but insurance does not cover. ALS is an incapacitating disease
that robs many people the ability to independently shower, eat, walk, climb
stairs and get dressed. Many people become confined to their house or even
their bed without the proper equipment to move. Devices like power
wheelchairs, commodes, ramps, and lifts to get out of bed are not covered
by insurance. Many families are financially strapped because the patient is
disabled by ALS and unable to work.
We can give assistance by providing the proper equipment they may need to
continue to live at home. ALS Knight’s goal is to help care for those
suffering with ALS.

For more information, please contact Chrissy Rinkus at
chrissyrinkus@msn.org .
