Town Meeting and on to the Election

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Town Meeting concluded its annual business this evening after choosing
to purchase a piece of open space property off of Webster Street and
voting to petition the Great and General Court to amend the Hanover
Town Manager Act, among other items of business.

The property off Webster Street will connect two other town-owned
parcels, thereby eventually creating over 1.5 miles of walking trails
in North Hanover. The proposed amendments to the Town Manager Act will
give the Board of Selectmen a seat at the table when personnel issues
are being discussed in town with the Manager.

The Town’s annual business continues with the Town Election, scheduled
to be held this Saturday, May 11, 2013. The polls will be open at
Hanover High School from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Candidates for election
are hereby invited to submit their “Candidate Profile”, as submitted
to the Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors for Candidate’s Night, for
reprint here on “Around Town on the Web”.

Town Meeting update

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Town Meeting adjourned for the night this evening (Monday) after
considering all 12 of the Articles and dissolving the Special Town
Meeting and debating 33 of the 43 Articles on the Annual Town Meeting
Warrant.
Of particular note in the Special Town Meeting was the late decision
of the Advisory Committee to change its recommendations on several of
articles as a result of a review of a 2010 capital planning study. The
Advisory Committee noted that the Town spent $120,000 to map out and
prioritize the town’s capital needs just a few years ago and that
said study should be used as the roadmap for future capital
expenditures. As a result, hundreds of thousands of dollars were not
spent this fiscal year on items like generators.
During the Annual Town Meeting, debate turned lively over the issue of
“checks and balances” and some of the changes to town government
that have occurred since the adoption of the Town Manager Act. A
procedural move to advance a related article failed, but that debate
will surely continue Tuesday night when Article 43 is finally
considered. In other business, the Planning Board regrettably had to
refer its article regarding the Interchange District back for further
study, but the town meeting accepted their motion regarding “Family
Accessory Dwelling Units”. Another hot topic was the discussion
regarding the care and control of the former Curtis School site. Town
Meeting voted to transfer the management of the site, which includes
the Amos Gallant ball field, from the Board of Selectmen to the Parks
and Recreation Committee.
Town Meeting will re-convene at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at the
Hanover High School’s Robert J. Nyman Auditorium. See you there!

Historical Society Victorian Spring program

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The Hanover Historical Society presents:
A Vision in White: The Victorian Lady in Spring

Friday, May 3rd from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Come celebrate Victorian Spring this Friday with the Hanover

communication; each movement meant a different signal. The exhibition
will highlight the society’s fan collection and have an interactive
component where guests can take part in the art of the fan. Come view
the exhibition and enjoy refreshments out on the lawn like our
Victorian ancestors did in May.

Free and open to the public; donations are appreciated.
Exhibition is located at the Hanover Historical Society’s Stetson
House Museum 514 Hanover Street
Contact (781) 826- 9575 or rachel.louise.lovett@gmail.com
