Dear fellow Hanoverians:
The “Friends of Hanover Parks and Recreation” is seeking enthusiastic
volunteers who are passionate about our town and its parks to become
“Friends”.
The Friends of Hanover Parks and Recreation is a new non-profit
organization designed to support the town’s parks and recreation
programs and facilities.
The Friends of Hanover Parks and Recreation is seeking volunteers for
upcoming projects such as Hanover Day and fundraising efforts. Town
Meeting recently approved the transfer of the Curtis School property
at Amos Gallant Field to the care and control of the Parks and
Recreation Committee and the committee has many great ideas for this
space. There are many ideas of how to make this park and others such
as Forge Pond Park wonderful resources for the residents of Hanover.
Eventually with the Friends account, the group also hopes to offer
scholarships for summer counselors, CIT’s and students who attended
their programs. The goal with this Friends of Hanover Parks and
Recreation account is to help maintain facilities, programs and
community through fundraising and the sale of Parks and Rec clothes
and accessories. Please note that this is a separate and distinct
organization, and not part of any Town of Hanover town department.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
It’s time again for the Annual Book and Bake Sale at the John Curtis
Free Library. This event will be held rain or shine on Saturday, May
18, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Plan to shop early for the best
selection of paperback and hardcover fiction and non-fiction. All
books are organized by category for easy shopping. There is also a
great selection of puzzles, DVDs, and CDs.

*New this year: Buy 2 books at their regular great prices ($2
/hardcover and $1/paperback) and get an additional book of the same or
lesser value FREE! In addition, all children’s books will be $0.25
each during the sale with the buy-2-get-1-free deal applying to them
also.*

Friends of the John Curtis Free Library are invited to a Preview Sale
on Friday, May 17, from 5-7 pm at the library (invitations are
required or memberships may be purchased at the Preview Sale for as
low as $10). This event is sponsored by the Friends of the John Curtis
Free Library with all proceeds to benefit the library. They hope to

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Rebecca Stetson’s Federal Era Tea for Mothers and Daughters

Join the Hanover Historical Society Saturday, May 18th for their
second annual Rebecca Stetson Tea for mothers and daughters. This
event celebrates the life of Rebecca Stetson, an American girl who
grew up in the Stetson House right after the American Revolution.
Mothers and daughters are given the actual name of Hanoverians who
lived during this exciting time period. Participants will take part in
hands-on activities and hear what it was like to grow up in Hanover as
the first American-born children. The tea will be held on the Stetson
House Museum’s historic grounds and will include a house tour
highlighting the society’s federal era collection.

The event is from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th. Call (781)

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
This June, come to the library to celebrate Pam Golden’s new book,
Victorian Cat Tales, Book One: The Life and Times of Rose and Leopold!
The Friends of the John Curtis Free Library are very happy to announce
a Victorian Tea for Three (adult, child, stuffed animal) on Saturday,
June 1, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the library.

Pam Golden, a local artist/educator, has led many afternoon clay
classes at the library for children. Pam’s clay sculptures illustrate
the book which is written by her sister, Catherine Golden. It features
the friendship between two cats – Rose and Leopold. The cat’s lives
intersect with the history of Queen Victoria, Price Albert, and
Buckingham Palace. To celebrate the publication of this book, Pam will
read the story while Donna and Ron Lasko (often seen at the Windsor
Tea House in Cohasset) will talk about Victorian tea traditions,
display some of their collections (cards, fans, and more), offer their
own gourmet blend of black tea with ginger, and offer one lucky
participant a beautiful tea-related door prize. The children will also
have the chance to make their own Victorian souvenirs to bring home
and enjoy. Pam’s book will be on sale for purchase after the tea.

This is truly a charming, interesting, and fun way to spend an
afternoon. Children are asked to bring a special stuffed animal.
Please join us and bring your favorite tea cup for service (please
also bring a tea cup for the child and animal). Pastries and fruit
will also be served. This event is recommended for children ages 6 and
up. Tickets are $5 each. You may purchase tickets at the library
circulation desk downstairs now. Tickets are limited to 40, so plan to

kittens rescued yesterday, unwanted victims of a broken relationship.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR LAST RESORT YARD SALE

Joan Norris, who has run the Last Resort cat shelter in a carriage
house behind her home since 1981, is hosting a Yard Sale to raise
funds for food and veterinary care. The sale will be held June 1 and
2; mark your calendars; details will be forthcoming here on “Around
Town on the Web”.
Items for the sale may be dropped off at 1126 Broadway in Hanover in
May from 11:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. on the following days: Saturday May
18, Friday May 24, Saturday May 25, and the day before the sale,
Friday May 31. Volunteers will be on hand during “intake” days to
help you unload items. To bring things at another time, please call

new—including small pieces of furniture, books and DVDs,
collectibles and costume jewelry, toys and games, clothing, bikes,
tools, sporting equipment, tools, musical instruments, lawn care
equipment, and household items like small appliances, glass, cookware,
dishes, area rugs, cell phones, lamps, bookcases—in short, anything
you think might sell and raise dollars for needy pets. (Please no

Election is that of my own, as your candidate for Town Clerk. This is
the same profile that was submitted to the Hanover Woman’s Club,
