*SEASONAL INFLUENZA CLINIC ADDED*

The Hanover Board of Health, in conjunction with the Hanover Visiting
Nurse Association, has scheduled an additional public flu clinic to be
held at the *Hanover Council on Aging*, 665 Center Street, Hanover on:

Wednesday, October 26, 2011 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Please note:
The Board of Health has purchased an adequate supply of flu vaccine to
make up for the lesser amount received from the State. *** All persons
will be asked to present an insurance card (most insurance plans
welcome) and the insurance plan will cover the cost of the flu shot
***.

Non-residents are welcome!

No one will be turned away on the basis of insurance eligibility.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is no longer able to
provide Pneumonia or Tetanus vaccine because of budget cuts across all
departments.

Please remember to wear short sleeves. If you require additional
information please call the Hanover Health Office at (781) 826-4611 or

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Children of all ages are invited to participate in the Hanover
Woman’s Club, Jrs. Annual Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 30.
Check in time is at the Hanover Town Hall at 12:45 p.m. The parade
will begin at 1:15 p.m. and will be led by the Hanover Fire Department
and the Hanover High School Band. It will end at Sylvester School
where a storyteller will entertain the children. Trick or treat bags
will be distributed at the end of the festivities. In case of rain,
join the club at the same time at the Center School.

Registration is $2.00 per child. Registration forms are available
here:

, the John Curtis Free Library, the Park and Recreation Building and
all the nursery and day care centers in Hanover. Forms should be
completed and returned to the child’s school with the proper fee or in
the drop box at the library. It is requested that forms be returned by
Friday, October 21st if possible.

The club is asking each participant to bring a non-perishable food
item for the Hanover Emergency Food Pantry. For more information about

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover resident Michael Meallo needs a marrow donor match. Mike was
recently diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), which is
sometimes referred to as “Smoldering Leukemia.” Michael’s doctors
have told him a stem cell transplant is his best chance to survive.
Mike is married to Jennifer and together they have 2 beautiful
children, Katharine Hannah and Max. Michael’s family is also still
in the area – including his parents Paula and Albert and his siblings
Greg and Melissa. You may have seen his landscaping trucks around town
or know Michael as a past youth football and baseball coach.

Please join Mike’s family and friends in support of him and others
like him. Elizabeth Naylor is a local transplant recipient who is
celebrating two years of successful health by having a walk/run next
Saturday, October 22nd at Hull High School. She has graciously
extended her walk/run to include Michael and his supportive friends,
family and community. If you are interested in being tested to see if
you match Michael or someone like him please support the run/walk.
After the walk/run, come to Daddy’s Beach Club to register as a
possible marrow donor. See attached flyer for further details.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to save someone’s life?
A simple cheek swab is all that is needed to determine if you could be
the one to save one of the thousands of patients in need of a bone

Hanover/Rockland Gymnasts need your help!

High School Gymnastics is a self funded sport.

Resources are needed for equipment, uniforms, and training facilities
and for other operational expenses associated with the sport of
gymnastics.

Please join the gymnasts at their upcoming Meat Raffle, Sunday,
October 23rd at 1:30 p.m., at the Harmon Gold Club, Rockland. Details
regarding the raffle items are attached.

Help to support our local gymnasts so they have the necessary tools to
afford them the opportunity to continue to compete in the sport they
love and represent our community with pride and passion.

On Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hanover John Curtis
Library, local historian Christopher Daley will present a lecture and
slide show on the history of “Haunted New England”.

Just in time for Halloween, Mr. Daley combines fact with legend to
provide a fascinating look at real life events. Topics covered include
Burial Hill in Plymouth, John Alden House in Duxbury, Lady in Black,
the Cursed Freetown State Forest, Mount Washington Hotel, “the
Vampire” of Exeter Rhode Island, and other haunted places.

There is no charge for admission and refreshments will be served.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
From time to time we receive requests for publication on “Around
Town on the Web” that simply exceed our all-volunteer-staff
capacity. Please know that while we appreciate your enthusiasm for so
many terrific events here on the South Shore, we do have what we think
are reasonable limits for what will be sent on “ATOTW”. (That and
we have day jobs that need tending to!) In an effort to both support
ad revenues for our local newspapers, as well as the limited budgets
of the Town of Hanover municipal government and Hanover non-profit
organizations, the following guidelines for “Around Town on the
Web” have been established:
*What will you send “Around Town on the Web”?*
We send information regarding:

Non-profit events in Hanover
Events sponsored by Hanover non-profit organizations
The Town of Hanover’s municipal government
Contested town elections (candidate information must be brief and
unbiased)
For-profit organizations which are providing a free community service
to Hanover residents occasionally. We do ask that for-profits use
traditional paid-for advertising. (We still enjoy reading the
newspaper, and they need the ad revenue!)
Individual Hanover residents in need (but not lost and found animals
– please send that information to the local papers)
Significant Hanover happenings and milestones
Community safety issues

Please also remember that these guidelines are available 24/7 at

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the good folks at the Hanover Food Pantry!

The Hanover Emergency Food Pantry is so thankful to have had Hanover
Moms and all citizens pitching in to come to our assistance this past
week. There is currently a brown bag food drive at St. Mary’s that is
a huge success as well.

We were stocking the shelves for hours this week! We even have some
items to store in the back room (which has been empty most of the
summer). At the end of summer and as clients get their children ready
for school, we see a large increase in demand. This is a time that is
also one of the lowest points in our available stock.

It is such a comfort to look in the pantry and not see empty spots.
The food pantry coordinators have been shopping like crazy over the
last few weeks in an effort to keep up with the demand, but it all has
gone out as fast as it has come in. This week was a welcome change.

Thanks to everyone in town who has contributed to the pantry. We would
not be here if not for the generosity of Hanover citizens.

Shore Vocational Technical High School’s Lecture Hall, the South
Shore Vocational Technical Parent Advisory Council and the SSVT
Parents Association will co-sponsor a timely presentation called

Geltman uses a humor to coach and educate parents on the psychology of
the adolescent brain, why teens say and do what they do, how to set
limits, when to worry, and how to teen-proof your relationship and
