Please help support our local Boy Scouts. Troop 1 of Hanover is selling
luminaries at Stop & Shop in Norwell tomorrow (Sunday) from 10:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. on both days. The cost is $5.00 for a dozen luminaries. These
outdoor candle lanterns are often seen in neighborhoods throughout Hanover
on Christmas Eve. Please help light up our town on this special night!

If you can’t make it over to Stop and Shop tomorrow but would like to order

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This past spring, Governor Deval Patrick signed the much anticipated
anti-bullying bill into law. The law, which includes strict mandates for
reporting all suspected incidents of bullying and cyber-bullying, is being
heralded as one of the toughest anti-bullying laws in the country. Where
school districts up until now have not had a clear blueprint to follow when
incidents of bullying and cyber-bullying were suspected, this new law will
guide school districts in the identification, investigation and response to
incidents as they arise.

Hanover Public Schools’ draft of the "Bullying Prevention and Intervention
Plan" is on the schools’ website. It may be found here:

Please consider attending the meeting to hear the School Committee’s
comments and questions of this draft. The school committee will then open
the meeting up to the public for comments.

The Rusty Skippers Concert Band will offer a Holiday Christmas Concert on
Sunday, Dec 12th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church located at 17
Church Street in Hanover. The Skippers are a local community band that
appear at various events on the South Shore, including our very own
bandstand in the summer. Their concerts are a great way to introduce
children to music. The concert is free and will benefit the Hanover Food
Pantry. Guests are asked to please bring an item for the food pantry.

‘Tis the season for COOKIES! Hanover Brownie Troop 80253 will be selling
Girl Scout Cookies this Sunday, December 12th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at
Lowe’s in Pembroke. The cost is $4.00 per box. Please help support your
local Hanover Scouts. Their famous cookies make great Yankee Swap gifts,
teacher gifts, food pantry donations and holiday desserts!

Congratulations also to these 16 second grade girls on their creative
efforts this month. They’ve raised over $100 to purchase gift certificates
for the Hanover Food Pantry by selling Christmas ornaments. Handmade
Christmas ornaments are still available for sale or more information about
the cookie sale may be obtained by contacting Anne McNamara at
mcnamaraanne@comcast.net.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On Friday, December 10th, at 7:00 p.m. (rain/snow date is December 12th) the
Smith Family is hosting their 7th and last annual tree lighting for juvenile
diabetes. Come enjoy the lights, music, raffles and treats. They are
located at 428 King Street in Hanover. If you have never been to this event
and have been meaning to go and support diabetes research, this is the year
to go as it will not be repeated again!

The Smith’s son Michael was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes on December
9th, 2003. Since then, the Smith Family has lit a Christmas tree in their
yard (along with lots of other decorations and lights) to help raise money
and make people aware of Type 1 diabetes. Raffles will include luxury suite
seats at a Patriots game, Red Sox tickets, and an Apple IPad, just to name a
few. Over the past 6 years they have raised approximately $18,000 with the
help of lots of family, friends and kind and generous residents of Hanover.
Each donation gets us closer to finding a cure. 100% of the proceeds from
the tree lighting will go to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease. In a child with Type 1 diabetes
(juvenile diabetes) the pancreas does not produce insulin, a hormone
necessary to sustain life. Without insulin the sugar in the blood can’t be
used. It builds up in the bloodstream even while the body is starved for
energy. A person with Type 1 diabetes must take one or more injections of
insulin daily to stay alive. Insulin, however, is not a cure. It is only a
means of controlling the disease.

So bundle up and come enjoy the lights, music and atmosphere and get in the
Christmas spirit! If you can’t make it on the 10th, the Smith family

HANOVER GO GREEN EVENT!

Wednesday, December 8th, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

at the Hanover Town Hall

The Hanover Energy Advisory Committee and Sustainable Hanover
(www.sustainablehanover.org ) have
partnered with National Grid for the community’s premier Go Green Event. On
December 8th, National Grid will show Hanover residents that they have the
"Power to Save" at home and in the community. Educational and fun-filled
activities will highlight what Hanover residents can do to protect the
environment by using energy more wisely.

The Go Green Event features fun crafts children can take home, engaging
energy experiments, exciting trivia contests for the entire family, great
giveaways and even a special appearance by National Grid’s hybrid electric
vehicle. In addition to all of the hands-on activities, National Grid will
sponsor a fundraiser – featuring cookies and compact fluorescent light bulbs
(CFLs). Proceeds from this event will be set aside for an
energy-efficiency-themed community project in the Town of Hanover.

Admission price includes several crafts, face painting and their famous Cake
Walk.

annual.

Holiday Carolers for Hire!

WHO: Members of the Hanover High School Choruses

WHAT: Carolers offering Holiday Cheer to a doorstep, front porch,
or party near you!
Party and Doorstop visits (15 minutes) are $25

WHEN: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting at 6:00 p.m.

Fridays: December 3, 17

Saturdays: December 4, 11, 18

Sundays: December 5, 12, 19

Note: these dates and times are mainly for doorstop
visits; Party and nursing home visits may be arranged on alternate dates and
times pending availability.

WHERE: Short doorstop visits available in Hanover only; Indoor Holiday
Party visits available in Hanover and surrounding towns by advanced
appointment.

WHY: Proceeds to directly benefit the students of the HHS
Choral Programs!

Hanover High School Chorus members are available to carol at your doorstop
and party for 15 minutes. Simply e-mail (preferred) or call the Director of
Choral Music, Alyson Greer, at Hanover High to set up your appointment.
Payment may be made in advance or at the time of the performance (checks are
made payable to Hanover High School, cash is ok too!). All proceeds will go
directly to help support the HHS Choirs’ Festival Tour to Annapolis and
Baltimore, Maryland in April of 2011!

While all of our doorstop visits are limited to the Hanover area, our group
is available to surrounding communities for extended party visits, nursing
homes, etc., pending student/driver availability. While this is our first
formal announcement, spots are already going fast, so call for your carolers
today and bring a little extra Holiday Cheer to your friends and family!

The Hanover Newcomers Club is holding their 14th Annual Holiday Craft Fair
this Saturday, December 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fair will be
held at the Hanover Middle School, located at 45 Whiting Street. They will
have over 100 crafters in attendance displaying their jewelry, candles,
holiday items, children’s gifts, hand knits and wood workings among many
other items. There will also be several Girl Scout Troops and the Hanover
Parents Music Club selling refreshments and food items for their fundraising
needs. Admission is $2.00. Proceeds from this event help support Hanover
Newcomers Club’s community service efforts and scholarships. They hope to
see you there!
