by Step Guide to the Special Education Process

Description:  Every parent dealing with special education
has questions.  For instance, one question might be, what is required
under the law?  What testing should be done and within what time frame?
 What are my child’s rights?  Popular and successful special
education advocates, Maureen Finaldi and Carolyn Kain will try to answer your
questions during this workshop.  The presentation will cover federal and
state laws related to special education.  You will also learn about
eligibility determination, various types of evaluations, optional assessments,
timelines, independent evaluations and IEP development.  Helpful resources
will also be provided.

Maureen Finaldi, M.S.,  Special Education Advocate,  FCSN Trained
Advocate
Maureen is a trainer for the Federation for Children with Special Needs, Member
of Mass PAC, Council for Parent Advocates and Attorney’s (COPAA), and the
Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPAN).

Carolyn Kain,
Attorney
Carolyn specializes in special education law.  She is a trainer for
the Federation for Children with Special Needs.  She is also trained in
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and in Picture Exchange Communication System
(PECS).

This October SUBWAY has partnered with the American Red
Cross Blood Services to offer those that come in to donate
blood in Massachusetts between October 1st and October 31st
a coupon for a FREE regular six-inch sub at any participating SUBWAY restaurant
in Massachusetts.

Blood Inventory Update:

Recently the community blood supply of types O negative and
B negative began to drop below sufficient levels.  Though outreach to our
generous donors has increased, the blood supply continued to drop and is now at
critical levels.  The supply of other blood types is also below sufficient
levels, specifically O positive, A positive and B positive.  We ask all
eligible donors, especially those with type O negative and B negative blood, to
donate blood as soon as possible.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Regular readers around town will remember the quiet courage
and spirit of Hanover’s Julie Porzio, who succumbed to cancer earlier
this year.  Her wish to have Friends of Julie live on after she was gone is a marvelous
reality thanks to her husband Mark and so many others.  This just in from “Friends
of Julie”! 

We are proud to announce that
Friends of Julie has been selected by Pizzeria Uno’s as their recipient of
their "Raise Dough for Charity" this month.  So, on Thursday Oct. 21st,
20 percent of your total check will be donated to Friends of Julie.  Please
join us at Uno’s on Washington Street in Hanover (by the Mall) and help us
raise money for this worthy cause.  All proceeds go to raise funds for parents
with late stage cancer and their children.  FOJ gives directly to the patient
to enhance the quality of life during treatment, therefore allowing the patient
to focus their energy on spending quality time with their family.  Our goal is
to provide memory making opportunities which include day trips, extended
vacations, cruises and special events.

Who are Freemasons?  How did
they originate?  What makes them different from other fraternal organizations? 
Do they really have secrets?  What are the qualifications for a man to join? 
These questions (and many more) will be answered by qualified Masons at their Open
House. 

Masons utilize symbols to teach
Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.  The Square and Compass are the two symbols
that identify the organization.  These tools and other tools of architecture
had first a practical purpose, and then became symbols of ways to better
ourselves and strengthen a man’s character.  Freemasonry has stood the test of
time, because its principles are as credible in the 21st Century as
they were with many of our founding fathers 250 years ago.

Anyone with questions about the
history and purpose of Freemasonry are cordially invited to attend our Open
House on October 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Food and
refreshments are served all day.  Just stop by.  No appointment is necessary.

The Hanover VNA is pleased to announce that the Hanover
Board of Selectmen has proclaimed this week, the week of October 10th,
“Hanover Visiting Nurse Association Week”.

This proclamation coincides with the HVNA’S Annual
Fund Drive. While the proceeds of this drive are used to provide emergency
relief to Hanover residents in need throughout the whole year, the funds are
critically needed in the upcoming months. The holidays and home heating costs
often place a heavy burden on families who are struggling to make ends meet.
During the holidays, the HVNA sponsors projects to insure that residents who
are alone or in need of assistance will be able to share in the joyful spirit
of the season.

The HVNA is no stranger to the caring nature of the
residents of Hanover. Each year your contributions have enabled us to respond
to the needs of the community. We are extremely grateful for your past
generosity and for your consideration of our current request.

the holidays!

All proceeds from the fruit sale
will go to help offset the cost of the HHS Music Department’s Festival
Music Tour to Annapolis and Baltimore, Maryland in April of 2011.

during the sale. Cash is accepted, and checks may be made out to "Hanover
High School".
