The Hanover Board of Health, in conjunction with the Hanover
Visiting Nurse Association, has set the date for the first adult seasonal influenza
IMMUNIZATION CLINIC at the Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street, in the
large hearing room on the first floor:

Wednesday, October 20, 2010, 9:00
a.m.  –  11:00 a.m.           &nb sp;    

PNEUMONIA AND TETANUS VACCINES will also be
administered at this time for those who need to update their immunizations.

MEDICARE B recipients’ are asked to present
their Medicare card for Flu and/or Pneumonia vaccine.

COST: No charge for Hanover residents or $5.00 for
non-residents.

Children under 18 years old must have written doctors orders
faxed to the Board of Health prior to the clinic date: 781-826-5289.

Donations to the Hanover Visiting Nurse Association would be
appreciated.

**   Please avoid long sleeved clothing or tight
fitting sleeves.

Think you know Hanover well?  “The Amazing Race”
is coming to Hanover!!  Hanover’s own version of The Amazing Race will be held on October 24th from
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  This event is sponsored by the Hanover Diversity
Committee in collaboration with the Hanover Parks and Recreation
Department and the Hanover Senior Center.  Get ready for a fun-filled
family afternoon racing around various cultural and historical sites in our town.
Learn some unique facts about Hanover and race against your friends.  Teams are
limited to one vehicle per team, and all team members must travel
together to each location.  Entry fee is a donation for the Hanover Food
Pantry.  Amazing Race Hanover will be held rain or shine and the starting point
is the new Hanover Senior Center located at 665 Center Street.  Check-in
time for teams is 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.  Teams should submit their
team name, the names of the team members, and telephone and address of the team
leader on-line to  hanoverdiversitycommittee@gmail.com

Hanover
High School’s Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, February 3,
2011.  More than 125 HHS students will conduct research this fall and
present their findings at the science fair.  Judging is a critical element
of a science fair and we can only advance our top 15 projects to regional
competition if we have enough independent judges to participate in our
fair.  Please consider volunteering as a judge.   A general
description of what a judge is expected to do is shown below.

A judge should have some background in a science
related field (such as science, engineering,  technology,
architecture, math, programming, manufacturing, or health or medicine)
Judges spend ten to fifteen minutes with an
individual student.  The judge listens to the student present his or her
research and conclusions, and then the judge may ask the student
questions.
There is a simple scoring rubric that leads the
judge through a scoring of 1-10 on 5 different criteria (based on the
state guidelines)
Judges are usually assigned to 5 projects related
to the content area chosen by the judge
Each project is judged by 3 separate judges (your
score is only one of 3 required scores for a project)
The overall time commitment is typically less
than 2 hours and must be between 2:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the day of the
fair (February 3rd, 2011)
Parents CAN BE judges – parents are not
assigned to their own child.  Projects with any conflict of interest
will be avoided.

Please
consider supporting our fair by being a judge.  The students need the
opportunity to be judged so that our fair will qualify to advance our top 15
projects to regional competition.  Click

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment wishes to
thank all those in the community who contributed items or attended the yard
sale at the Town Hall on September 25th.   The beautiful
weather ushered in a steady stream of shoppers. Over $430 was raised, all of
which will help fund educational enrichment programs for the Hanover Schools.
 If you missed the opportunity to support the Foundation at the yard sale,
you can still sign up to become a member and receive a free raffle ticket to
win an Apple IPod touch 8GB MP3 player!  Additional raffle tickets are $5
each.

The HFEE is an independent, non-profit organization
supported by residents who care about quality education for our children.
 Our purpose is to foster programs which provided educational enrichment
in the form of grants proposed by teachers, staff, and parents for the benefit
of all students.

To sign up and become a member, simply fill out the
information below along with a check for $15 payable to HFEE and mail it to
Larry DiNardo, 22 Birchwood Road in Hanover.  If you have children in the
schools, you may send your membership and check into your child’s school
in an envelope marked “Hanover Foundation for Educational
Enrichment”.

The Foundation recently voted to allocate $15,000 toward its
annual Grant Awards Program for the 2010-2011 school year.   Since
its inception, the Foundation has allocated  more than $175,000 to fund
such projects as Dirt, Rachel’s Challenge, Food Play, Amazing Hero Art,
the Clothesline Project, a rock climbing wall at the Middle School, document
cameras, potter’s wheels at the high school, and numerous technology
grants for all grades.  Funding for these grants is made possible through
the ongoing generosity and support of the community.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Come one, come all to Boy Scout Troop 38’s Annual Pumpkin
Patch!  The event is being held on St Mary’s front lawn this Saturday,
October 2nd  from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 3rd
from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., rain or shine.  There will be pumpkins of all
shapes and sizes, gourds, scarecrows and other fall decorations.  Hot
apple cider, hot dogs and popcorn will be available for purchase.  A bake
sale table will also showcase wonderful treats for sale.  The funds raised
go to support Troop 38’s campouts and their many community initiatives. 
Stop by this weekend for a pumpkin and some home-baked treats…hope to see you
there!

As mentioned in a previous e-mail, HYAA registration for
winter basketball, winter soccer and spring soccer is on-going on-line all this
month.  To be reminded of the details of this or any previous “Around

What you may not know, however, is that after September 30th,
late registration fees kick in for HYAA sports.  An additional fee of $25
per sport per child will apply.

As previously mentioned in this space, the Hanover
Newcomer’s Club Anchor Race is this Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m. 
For more details about the race, please go to www.atotw.com
and search the archives.  In the meantime, in an effort to notify
residents of the surrounding areas of the race route, and for the safety of the
runners, I thought it would be wise to send along the following further
information from the Anchor Race Committee: 

The race will start and finish at Cedar School
and will run through several
neighborhoods in the area.  The race route is as follows:  start at
265 Cedar Street – right onto Cedar Street – right onto Whiting
Street – right onto Homestead Lane – left on Bayberry Lane – right on
Curtis Mill Lane – right on Linden Lane – left on Bonney Lane – left on Bates
Way – left on Stone Meadow Lane – right on Main Street – right on Cedar Street
– finish at 265 Cedar Street.

deference while driving) as the runners make their way around the race course!

Spring Soccer Tryouts

HYAA spring soccer tryouts for boys U12 (grades 5/6) and U14
(grades 7/8) will be held on Saturday October 23th, and girls
U12 (grades 5/6) and U14 (grades 7/8) will be held on Saturday October 30th
, at the Hanover Bandstand/B. Everett Hall Field.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time. 
Groupings are based on date of birth and are as follows:

Cleats are recommended.  Everyone registering to play HYAA soccer next
spring should attend.  Everyone who registers will be assigned to a team.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

At each school in Hanover, a legislation-enabled School
Council consisting of parents, teachers, representatives of the community, and
administrators meets approximately monthly during the school year.  This
year, Hanover High School’s School Council has an opening and is seeking
someone to fill the role of community representative.  The community
representative may be any Hanover resident who does not currently have children
attending the high school.

School Councils are to assist principals
in:

Adopting educational goals for the school that
are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student
performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students
attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
Formulating a school improvement plan

In the case of the high school, the Council shall also
review the student handbook each spring to consider changes in disciplinary
policy to take effect for the following school year.
