History Walk Through Sylvester Field

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

History Walk Through Sylvester Field
Saturday, July 29th, 1:00 p.m., 129 Washington Street, Hanover

Join Hanover Historical Society President John Galluzzo for a walking tour
of Sylvester Field, one of the oldest historic landscapes in town.
Sylvester Field was in use for centuries from the 17th into the 20th for
farming and haying. This ten-acre parcel located on Washington Street and
stretching down to the Third Herring Brook has never been developed and
looks much like it has for the past few hundred years. It was purchased by
the Wildlands Trust with help from Hanover’s Community Preservation Act
funds and many individual donors in 2021. The tour will explore the history
and wildlife of this preserved piece of Hanover’s agricultural past and
its importance for today.

Parking is limited, so it is suggested to park at Four Corners and walk
down to the Field.

The tour will take place rain or shine, unless the weather is extreme.
Parts of Sylvester Field may be wet, marshy, or muddy, please dress
accordingly.

For more information, contact the Hanover Historical Society at
hanoverhistoricalsociety@gmail.com or go to their website at
www.hanoverhistoricalsociety.com .

Light up Hanover blue

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This Saturday, July 15, marks 5 years since Sgt. Michael Chesna was killed
in the line of duty. As you may have heard, this past week a mistrial was
declared in the trial of the man who killed Sgt. Chesna and Vera Adams. It
has been an incredibly difficult week for Sgt. Chesna’s family and Hanover
residents Cindy, Olivia and Jack.

Please join your neighbors this weekend in lighting Hanover up blue –
changing your exterior light bulbs to blue bulbs – to show the Chesna
family that Hanover stands with them and that we will never forget the
incredible sacrifice their family has made.

Blue lightbulbs may be purchased at hardware stores or on Amazon.
Editor’s Note: I bought a blue outdoor lightbulb at Ace Hardware five
years ago, and it is still going strong. Special thanks to Eric Grund for
passing along this information, which he found on Facebook! It’s not often
that ATOTW quotes Facebook :), but this one was worth repeating!

Thank you!
