Support Hanover’s teachers and re-elect Cathy Harder-Bernier Town

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Committee to Re-Elect Cathy Harder-Bernier is hosting a campaign
fundraiser to benefit the Hanover Teachers’ Association on Thursday, March
27, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the 110 Grill, 1775 Washington
Street in Hanover. Appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be
available. All are welcome to attend, especially children!

Regardless of where you stood on last year’s Prop 2 1/2 override question,
the failure of the question and the subsequent impact on the teachers of
Hanover has made for a challenging year for those still teaching in our
district. 36 positions were lost, including too many bright young teachers,
and those who remained inherited larger class sizes, heavy teaching loads
and stress. Half of the proceeds of this event will go to the new Hanover
Teacher’s Association’s Health and Wellness Fund, with the other half to
the campaign.

Donations are $25 and may be made in advance, here:
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xY9QV++SjASy0DtxEWFGspaUx3hwMaotkphPYm6KyXBoqLt7nDOoRqoN783ZLADJ
. If you prefer to pay at the door, please bring a personal check with
your address payable to “The Committee to Elect Cathy Harder-Bernier”, as
it will speed the check-in process upon arrival. Cash donations over $50
are not allowable.

Information about the Hanover Teachers’ Association is available on their

Hanover Transfer Station Permit Sales Begin May 1

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

In case you missed it, it’s going to cost money to use the Hanover Transfer
station beginning July 1st, 2025. This is because we, the Town, voted at
our December 9, 2024 Special Town Meeting to no longer provide this service
for free and instead make it a self-funding “enterprise fund”, like our
water bills.

Transfer station permits for the upcoming fiscal year will be available for
purchase at the Tax Collector’s Office on the first floor of Hanover Town
Hall, 550 Hanover Street, and online through UniPay once the portal is
activated for Transfer Station payments, beginning May 1, 2025. Current
residential transfer station permits are valid until June 30, 2025.

A valid, up-to-date sticker will be required to access the Transfer Station
starting July 1, 2025. Please note that access to the facility will be
strictly enforced for valid permit holders only.

Operating hours effective July 1, 2025:
• Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
• 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fees will range from $25 per day to $345 per year, with discounts for early
bird purchasers, seniors (age 65 and up), and limited (no pit) access
stickers. To view the fee schedule information and to stay informed about
Hanover Transfer Station updates, please visit

Hanover Energy Choice will launch in May!

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Town of Hanover is amped to announce the May 2025 launch of Hanover
Energy Choice, a new group electricity buying program.

The Town signed a contract with Gridwealth Electric that will provide
savings compared to National Grid’s residential and commercial prices at
launch and 30 months of stable electricity supply prices until November
2027.

Hanover Energy Choice participants will automatically receive an
electricity supply price of 13.107 ¢/kWh, which is more than 10% below
National Grid’s current residential supply price of 14.672 ¢/kWh and
also below National Grid’s commercial price of 13.409 ¢/kWh. (National
Grid’s prices are in effect through July 31. Future prices are unknown,
so savings beyond July 31 cannot be guaranteed.)

Two additional program options will be available by request, both with
prices below National Grid’s current residential price. Participants can
choose to receive a total of 47% of their electricity from renewable
sources in the New England region (27% MA Class I RECs required by state
law plus an additional 20% added by Hanover) for 13.897 ¢/kWh or to
receive 100% of their electricity from renewable sources for 14.300 ¢/kWh.

Hanover Town Manager, Joe Colangelo, remarked, “Hanover Energy Choice is
an exciting opportunity to enhance affordability for Hanover residents and
businesses and most importantly hedge against unexpected price spikes as
our rates are locked-in and stabilized for the next 30-months.”

Vanessa O’Connor, Select Board Chair, commented, “Providing residents with
the option to choose up to 100% of their electricity supply from renewable
energy sources is important to the Select Board and the residents and
business owners of Hanover. By supporting a sustainable energy supply
option within the Hanover Energy Choice program, residents can reduce
greenhouse emissions, combat climate change, and improve public health.”

Like all similar programs across the state and in accordance with state
law, Hanover Energy Choice will use an automatic enrollment model, though
participation will not be required. Electricity accounts with National
Grid’s Basic Service, meaning accounts that do not have a private
electricity supply contract, will be eligible for automatic enrollment in
Hanover Energy Choice in May.

Eligible account holders will receive a notification by mail in March but
can choose to opt out if they do not wish to participate. Electricity
accounts with a private electricity supply contract will not be eligible
for automatic enrollment but can enroll in Hanover Energy Choice by
request.

The firm of MassPowerChoice is assisting the town in the development and
implementation of the program. Paul Gromer, CEO of MassPowerChoice, said,
“MassPowerChoice is delighted to support Hanover in launching and operating
Hanover Energy Choice. Our role is to provide support behind the scenes to
keep the program running smoothly for the town, and our customer support
team is ready to help address any questions or concerns.”

Program details will be available in the next few weeks on the program
website
http://atotw.com/maillist/lt.php?tid=xqu240yP/eaMUVIKAPWy9Ur5k5ufgS0muRor4oTvthpoqLt7nDOYRqoN783ZLADJ
or contact Hanover Town Manager, Joe Colangelo, at
joseph.colangelo@hanover.ma-gov (email) or 339.214.5303 (ph).

The Town will host public information sessions where Hanover residents and
business owners will be welcome to attend, ask questions, and get answers.
