Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I love how the Hanover Emergency Management folks always find a way to make
the best out of a challenging situation.

As you probably already know, there’s not a lot of vaccine kicking around.
First responders and then seniors over 75 years of age were prioritized
first, and seniors over 65 or people with 2 or more certain medical
conditions will be allowed to receive their first shots beginning Thursday,
February 18th. For more information about eligibility, go to:

The vaccine that is available to all of those folks is largely available
only to those with a computer and/or the ability to navigate a
less-than-intuitive state website, found here:

. Based on my conversations with my older friends, that leaves out far too
many people.

The issue is that some currently eligible folks aren’t universally
computer-savvy. Here’s where the Hanover Emergency Management folks come
in! Starting this week, the Hanover COVID-19 Hotline (781) 924-1925 will
be STAFFED with helpful computer-savvy Hanover staff who can answer your
questions in real time AND help make an appointment for people who qualify.
It will be staffed Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. On
weekends, holidays and after 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, the excellent 24
hour recorded hotline will answer lots more of your basic questions.

The irony of this e-mail is that it is probably not reaching the people who
need it most. :) So, therefore, a request, dear readers. Please call
your favorite retired neighbor this week and see if they need help getting
vaccinated. If so, please give them that hotline number – (781) 924-1925.

The town had a great response to the first COVID-19 vaccination clinic for
Hanover residents over the age of 75 scheduled for tomorrow, February 10th.
That clinic is now full. If you were lucky enough to get an appointment,
I love sharing this news: Hanover resident Kimberly Poirier is able and
willing to provide masked/socially distant transportation for you. She can

some updates and reminders:

ATOTW.

I’ve gotten several calls from people who do not have access to a computer
or a family member who can help them. Please share this COVID-19 Hotline

answering that phone line who can help make an appointment for you (if you
qualify/this is your Phase).

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Hanover Unity Council is proud to announce their upcoming events for
February:

FOOD DRIVE to benefit the Hanover Food Pantry. School vacation week is
coming and kids don’t have access to school meals. Let’s help stock up the
food pantry for every resident. Highest needed items are: cookies, pudding
cups, fruit cups, juice boxes, pancake mix, baking mixes, peanut butter,
jelly, laundry detergent, paper towels, Dinty Moore beef stew, and pasta
sauce. Any nonperishable goods will be accepted, including gift cards.

Drop off your donations on February 13, Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00
p.m. at Riley Hall (17 Silver Street) in the center of town. This will be a
drop off event in the parking lot. Please wear a mask and maintain social
distancing. The Hanover Unity Council will have bins to put items in and
all items will later be delivered to the food pantry. If you can’t make it,
contact the Council at hanoverunitycouncil@gmail.com and they can schedule
a pick up that day. Also, please make sure all food has not expired.

STUDENT LOGO ART CONTEST: The Council is looking for any student from
Hanover to design a logo for the Hanover Unity Council. The logo should be
designed around their mission statement. Please see the attachment, the

BOOK CLUB: This month’s book is “The New Kid” by Jerry Craft. This is a
graphic novel and appropriate for Middle School and High School age groups.
A group discussion will be led by Kathy Tan and Meredith O’Hayre-McCarthy.

More good news on the COVID-19 front in Hanover! The Town of Hanover has
just created a COVID-19 Information Hotline for residents to call to
receive up to date information regarding the COVID-19 virus testing and
vaccinations. The Hotline will be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week
and it will be updated frequently.

The Hanover COVID-19 Information Hotline number is (781) 924-1925.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Cardinal Cushing Centers’ MarketPlace Building, open since early
December, is selling a variety of products for Valentine’s Day, all made
by the students and adults with intellectual disabilities that Cushing
supports.

Products include Wish Bracelets, handmade Heart Pins, and Love Bugs –
adorable, hand-painted and decorated rocks with personalities – paired
with a whimsical poem. Please see the attached photos! If you don’t find
what you’re looking for in the Unique Boutique, you can pop into the Take
2 thrift store and find all kinds of items to help you celebrate the
holiday, or the Cushing Café for a sweet treat.

The new MarketPlace Building, visible and accessible directly from Route
53, is a 20,000 square foot, environmentally friendly building that houses
the Cushing Café, Take 2 thrift store, and Unique Boutique gift shop,
along with state-of-the-art training classrooms. Located at 120 Columbia
Road, the Café is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
and the Unique Boutique and Take 2 thrift stores are open from 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m., also Monday through Friday.

The MarketPlace provides employment training to Cushing students and job
opportunities to adults with disabilities. With the retail shops more
visible and accessible to passersby on Route 53, Cushing Centers is
increasing the number of customers they serve, enhancing job training so
their students are better prepared to obtain paying jobs in the community.
Part of Cushing’s mission is to remove barriers to integration and to
create meaningful employment opportunities for people of all abilities.

Along with the addition of the Bethany Apartments, 37 units of workforce
housing that were added to Cushing neighborhood in 2017, the MarketPlace
Building plays an important role in fulfilling Cushing’s vision for an
inclusive community where people with and without disabilities live, work,
learn, shop, and socialize together.

So, you can shop for a cause this Valentine’s Day and feel even better
about your local purchases. Revenue from the sales helps sustain the

Cardinal Cushing Centers, Inc. is in the business of changing lives. A
non-profit organization founded in Hanover, MA in 1947, Cushing Centers
began as a day and residential school for students with intellectual

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier today reminded registered
Hanover voters and caregivers of registered Hanover voters that the
Massachusetts legislature passed a bill in 2013 that amended election laws
pertaining to permanently disabled voters. Massachusetts General Laws
Chapter 54, Section 86 reads in part, “A voter who will be unable by
reason of permanent disability to cast his vote in person at the polling
place may file once with the city or town clerk a certificate executed by a
registered physician who is personally acquainted with the voter and aware
of his permanent disability, stating that it is reasonably certain because
of permanent physical disability that the voter will be unable to cast his
vote in person at the polling place on the day of the election.”

Once that letter from the physician has been received by the Hanover Town
Clerk’s Office, the voter will once a year automatically receive an
application for an absentee ballot by mail. The application may then be
filled out and returned to the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office, and will be
good for the calendar year if the voter so designates. Absentee ballots,
as they become available prior to an election, will then be automatically
mailed to the permanently disabled voter.
“This is a relatively simple way to save time and ease the load of a
permanently disabled voter or caregiver. Just send us a letter from your
family physician and we will take it from there. I am pleased to be able
to continue to offer this service to Hanover residents”, said Town Clerk
Harder-Bernier.

Great news on the COVID-19 vaccine front! Hanover residents who live at
Elmwood Farm Drive (“Cushing Residences”) have started to receive phone
calls from volunteer members of the Community Emergency Response Team to
schedule their first vaccinations for Wednesday, February 3rd, with a
second shot on Wednesday, March 3rd. If you or someone you know lives at
Cushing and hasn’t received a phone call yet, please be patient. Calls are
being made all this week.

This is great news for the residents who live in that elderly housing
facility. It’s coming Hanover! You’ll be able to hug Grandma and Grandpa
soon.

The John Curtis Library will be sponsoring Zoom yoga classes for children
on Mondays at 11:00 a.m. starting February 8. Christine Walker, who has
taught extremely popular classes at the library in the last few years, is
the instructor. The class is geared toward children ages three to six
years, but all ages are welcome to participate. To register, please email
lcampbell@ocln.org and include child’s name and age, parent/caregiver’s
name, phone number and email address. The Zoom link will be sent to
registered participants in advance of the first class.

“Miss Christine from Little Bee Yoga Co. is so excited to be able to share
the magic of yoga with her John Curtis Library families again!! Partner
with your little yogi in super fun poses, games, music, stories, breathing
exercises, meditation, and guided relaxations that help to strengthen their
bodies, minds and souls… We’ll bark in downward dog, meow in cat pose and
roar in lion pose while we take a yoga journey that you and your child will
never forget! This fun class provides a beautiful bonding experience
between the adult and child. Each class is 45 minutes.”
