Unwanted drugs take-back day

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Do you have unwanted medication(s) you need to dispose of?

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (D.E.A.) is coordinating, with the Hanover
Board of Health and the Hanover Police Department, a nationwide one-day
event to take back unwanted medications on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the
Hanover Senior Center, 665 Center Street, Hanover, between the hours of 10
a.m. and 1 p.m.

This national initiative will provide an opportunity for the public to
surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law
enforcement officers for destruction. Expired, unused or unwanted
substances in our homes are a potential source of supply for the increasing
abuse of pharmaceutical drugs in the United States and an unacceptable risk
to public health and safety.

For more information, contact the Hanover Board of Health at
health@hanover-ma.gov .

Postal Workers’ Annual Food Drive volunteers needed

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The Postal Workers’ Annual Food Drive is almost here again! It will be
held Saturday, May 14, 2016. There will be a combination of food drive
volunteers and postal service workers making the rounds. The Hanover Food
Pantry is in need of volunteers on that day again this year. What better
way to support residents of our town in need? Please consider volunteering
at the food pantry! It is also a great way for those who need service
hours to accrue some time for a good cause.

The Hanover Food Pantry will need:
• Drivers and gatherers (beginning as early as 10:00 a.m. or anytime up
through 3:00 p.m.) to go out on assigned routes for food pick-up. Take a
long route or a short route, no matter what; your help will be appreciated.
You’ll be given a map, and you will bring the food you gather back to the
pantry.

• Sorters to be stationed at the pantry from 12:00 through 5:00 p.m., in
two hour shifts. Feel free to stay as long as you like. The food pantry
will supply water, soda, coffee or tea and PB&J sandwiches, along with hard
work and a good time.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to drive and pick up or sort donations can do
so by e-mailing Food Pantry President Sally Lovett Boutin at
kidsense@comcast.net or calling her at 781-826-6485, or on her cell at
781-799-0053 (texting also available).

Remember that all collected food stocks the shelves of our very own Hanover
Food Pantry for our friends and neighbors in need. The food that is
gathered each year at the Postal Workers Annual Food Drive sees those in
need through the summer when the churches, civic organizations, schools and
other groups stop or slow their regular collections. Your support will be
greatly appreciated.

Regardless of your ability to volunteer to help that day, please don’t
forget to donate your food to the town-wide drive on May 14th!

Register to vote at the Special Town Meeting

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Yes, it’s too late to register to vote in the May 2nd Annual Town Meeting
or May 7th Annual Town Election. But, did you know that you can still
register to vote at the Special Town Meeting being held on Monday, May 2nd?
Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that due to an unusual
quirk in the law, residents of Hanover who are US citizens and aged 18 or
over as of May 2nd may still register to vote at the Special Town Meeting
that is being held that evening at 7:00 p.m.

The deadline to register is Friday, April 22nd at 8:00 p.m. The Town
Clerk’s Office will be open late that night to accommodate anyone
interested in registering. Don’t delay, register today!

The May Special Town Meeting is typically held to tie up any loose ends for
the current fiscal year that ends June 30th, 2016. The warrant this year
includes several big ticket items, including:
• The decision to rescind the rest of the bond for the new Hanover High
School
• A request for funds to authorize a Water Master Plan
• A request for funds for the Pond Street Water Treatment Plant
• A possible transfer of funds from the Overlay Reserve to the
Stabilization Fund
• Amendments to the Senior and Veteran’s Tax work-off programs

For more details regarding the Special Town Meeting warrant and related
articles, please go to:

.

For more information about registering to vote during the Special Town
Meeting, please contact Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at (781)

Candidate’s Night

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The public is invited to attend “Candidates Night”, as sponsored by the
Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors. An annual event, Candidate’s Night will
feature those candidates running for public office in Hanover. The forum
will be held on Tuesday April 26th at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting
Room. The club invites town residents to come and hear the views of the
candidates on important issues affecting the town. There are two contested
races this year: School Committee and Board of Selectman. Those running
unopposed will also be in attendance. Joan Port-Farwell will serve as
moderator for the evening and will direct questions from the audience to
the candidates.

The club encourages voters to attend and ask questions important to them,
thereby allowing them to make better and more informed choices when voting
at the Annual Town Election on May 7, 2016. For more information, please
contact Debby Mahony at italmomma2@comcast.net .
