Hope for Anthony – Stay Positive for Pierotti

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
At 12 years old, life should be full of friends and fun. The biggest
worry kids should have to face is extra homework assignments or tests
to study for. For Hanover’s Anthony Pierotti, diagnosed with
leukemia this January, his worries got a whole lot bigger. He has been
admitted to Children’s Hospital in Boston and is undergoing intensive
treatment, which is expected to take about 2 years to complete.
Anthony has an amazing medical team and is surrounded by family,
including his parents Jim and Brenda, twin brother Nick, and his
younger brothers, Matt and Owen. They have a long road ahead and will
need every bit of support they can get. We know the Pierottis can’t do
this alone, but we also know their Hanover community would never let
them!
A website, Hope for Anthony, was created to help community members
offer strength and support to Anthony and his family, and to provide a
way for the youngest members of our community, Anthony’s friends, to
tell him how much they care. It also details ways that we can support
the family through various fundraising options, including donations,
Anthony Strong and Think + T-shirts, Anthony wristbands, and a link to
a Meal Train site that organizes meal drop-offs for the family.
Attached please find images of some of the items that are being sold
to raise funds.
Hanover Middle School will be having a “Stay Positive for Pierotti”
Day on March 14. They are encouraging students and staff to rally
around the Pierottis with a visible show of support, wearing one of
the Anthony shirt options or something orange, the color most often
associated with leukemia.
Visit the Hope for Anthony site at
http://hopeforanthony.weebly.com/fundraising.html

to see how Anthony is doing, make a donation or purchase a t-shirt.
You are encuoraged to send a message or upload an image to share. It’s
hard for cancer patients to endure their treatments and the long days
spent in the hospital; being surrounded by love and support can make
it a little bit easier. Keep sending Anthony well wishes and stories
from home so he doesn’t feel alone. For more information, contact
Christa Monahan at cmonahan1@me.com

Hunting policy public hearing

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Due to snow, the Conservation Commission public hearing on proposed
changes to the town’s hunting policy has been rescheduled to
Wednesday, February 19 in the second floor meeting room at Hanover
Town Hall. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and the hunting policy is
#5 on the Public Hearing Agenda. The proposed changes would allow for
bow hunting in areas such as Colby Phillips, Fireworks, Merry property
(behind the Fire Museum on Broadway), Pine Island Trails and Indian
Head/Riverside land. These areas have numerous walking trails that are
used by Town residents throughout the year. If you have thoughts about
the impact of the proposed changes, please plan to attend the meeting.

Proposal would change hunting policy

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
On Wednesday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m., the Conservation Commission
will hold a meeting at town hall to discuss a proposal to revise the
hunting policy in the Town of Hanover. The proposed changes would be
to open all Town properties under the Conservation Commission’s
control for bow hunting as defined in State Department of Fisheries
and Wildlife Hunting Regulations. Areas with active recreation such as
Luddam’s Ford and Forge Pond Park would be excluded. The proposal
would permit hunting in the spring, fall and winter, since bow hunting
is allowed for more than just deer hunting (such as turkey and
coyote).
Currently bow hunting for deer is allowed on the Summer Street and
Clark Bog site. This proposed change would allow for bow hunting in
areas such as Colby Phillips, Fireworks, Merry property (behind the
Fire Museum on Broadway), Pine Island Trails and Indian Head/Riverside
land. These areas have numerous walking trails that are used by Town
residents throughout the year. If you have thoughts about the impact
of the proposed changes, please plan to attend the meeting.

K-12 Student success grants

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Is there a non-profit in Hanover that would like to support
Hanover’s K-12 students? I love it when businesses step up to the
plate and offer to make Hanover a better place to live. Read on!
The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation has begun accepting
applications for grants that seek to improve the quality of education
for children in kindergarten through Grade 12 as part of its annual
“Targeted Grants” program.
Dubbed “K-12 Student Success,” the Charitable Foundation is
looking for nonprofits to submit proposals that fund programs or
initiatives aimed at improving the quality of childhood education
between kindergarten through Grade 12. The Foundation plans to
distribute more than $1 million in targeted grants as part of its
overall annual donations.
“There’s no greater contribution we can make to our communities than
ensuring that all our children have equal access to a quality
education and a bright future,” said Laura Kurzrok, Executive
Director of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation. “Our goal is for
all children in our communities to graduate from high school educated,
informed and prepared for a sustainable career or the rigors of higher
education.” Programs to be supported include, but are not limited
to:
• In-school Academic Enrichment – Academic enrichment programs
that support students during their school day;
• After-school Academic Enrichment –Academic enrichment programs
that support students after their school day;
• Technology Enhancements – Providing resources to students with
limited access to necessary technology;
• Mentoring – In-and-out of school programs designed to support
students academically and emotionally;
• Eliminating Barriers to Success – Programs addressing the myriad
of complex issues impacting student success.
The Charitable Foundation plans to award grants ranging from $10,000
to $50,000, with the majority of the awards granted in the $10,000 to
$15,000 range. The grants will be reviewed annually and requests must
be submitted by March 1, 2014. For more information and to apply for a

/Park and Rec/ is a memorable camp experience that has made a
significant impact in the lives of countless Hanover residents over
the past 50 years.

OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
all youth to experience outdoor recreation, both passive and active
with their peers, all while creating great memories and new friends.
OUR PROGRAM The Park and Rec program consists of four sessions
(Session One is 1 week at $64, Sessions 2-4 are 2 weeks at $160). This
program is open to all in grades K-6. Each grade travels together to
different stations every 55 minutes, these stations range from Arts
and Crafts to Floor Hockey to Tennis. Within each grade level 10- 14
children are assigned a counselor to guide them and provide activities
throughout the day. The counselor groups are usually done
alphabetically and just for attendance purposes. The entire grade
plays together. Along with the counselors, the Parks and Recreation
Department also employs an Assistant Director and three Directors. The
Directors provide services such as first aid help, weekly talent
shows, tournaments and arts and crafts. They also oversee all aspects
of camp including field trips, pizza days, t-shirt distribution as
well as the normal day to day operations.
OUR PROMISE To do everything possible to allow all children to have
the best possible summer by creating many opportunities for children
to have fun all summer long!

/Teen Extreme /is an exciting unique experience for middle schoolers
bridging the gap between organized summer activities and field trips.

OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
all middle schoolers to socialize and stay active during the summer.
OUR PROGRAM The Teen Extreme is a field trip based, exploration
program that consists of seven, 1 week sessions at $130 per
week/child. This program is open to all in 5th – 8th grades. Each
week, children travel to two new and exciting places across
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. During Rec Center days
many activities are offered by the staff however, the campers choose
whether to participate or not.
OUR PROMISE To allow for fun age appropriate activities for the Middle
Schoolers of Hanover (and surrounding towns) to enjoy and experience
each week of the summer.

/Kids Klub/ is an introductory program to get young children and
families interested in Park and Rec summer activities and place where
first friends are made!
OUR PURPOSE To provide an inexpensive, age-appropriate opportunity for
potty trained 3-6 year olds to socialize and have fun with other
children their age. Kids Klub will serve as a “recruitment tool”
for future Park and Rec participants and hopefully lifelong fans of
our summer programs.
OUR PROGRAM Kids Klub is a unique pre-k program that runs over the
course of 7 weeks. Session One is 1 week while Session Two, Three and
Four are 2 weeks. We offer two different options. Option 1) Three days
a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Rec Center; Option 2)
adds Mondays and Wednesdays at the Pre-K Playground at B. Everett Hall
(Sylvester) Field. Both options start at 8:30 AM and continue until
12:30 PM. The children are divided into counselor groups to travel
with their groups to different assigned stations.
OUR PROMISE We understand that for many children this may be the first
time that they have been away from their parents for an extended
period of time. We promise that your children will enjoy themselves
while creating new friends in a fun and safe environment.
