Public safety reminder

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Spring is in the air, the kids are outside (as they should
be!), and it is therefore time for an “Around Town on the Web”
reminder to be vigilant about our children’s safety.  The latest
on-line information indicates that there are five Level 3 sex offenders living
or working in Hanover, and nine Level 2 offenders.  The Sex Offender Registry Board has determined that Level 3
individuals have a high risk to reoffend and
that the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial
public safety interest is served by active community notification.

For more information, please go to:

http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=3Deopsagencyland ing&L=3D3&L0=3DHome&L1=3DPublic+Safety+Agencies&L2=3DSex+ Offender+Registry+Board+%28SORB%29&sid=3DEeops
.  I routinely show my teenagers the latest pictures of the Level 3
offenders just so that they know who to stay away from.

Additionally, the town passed a new General By-Law at Town
Meeting that regulates where sex offenders may live and spend their time.
The by-law still needs to be approved by the Attorney General to take
effect.  In the meantime, for more information, please go to Article 55 of
the Town Warrant that may be found here:  http://ww w.hanover-ma.gov/pdf/forms/WarrantMay2010.pdf
.

As always, our stalwart Hanover Police try and stay on top
of situations that warrant their or our attention.  Sometimes, though, we
can be their eyes and ears.  If you have any information, questions or
concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Detective Division via the Hanover
Police Business Line at (781) 826-3231.  Of course, in an emergency,
don’t hesitate to dial 911.

Postal Worker’s Food Drive this Saturday

Dear
fellow Hanoverians:

As
mentioned in an earlier e-mail, the Postal Workers’ Food Drive will be
held on Saturday, May 8, 2010.  That’s this Saturday!  Please
take a moment first thing on Saturday to put some non-perishable food items in
a bag and place the bag by your mailbox. Please double bag if it rains.
(If you’re like me, and not very awake when you go out to get the paper
on Saturdays, pack your bag now and put it by the front door so that you trip
on it on your way out that morning.)

There
will be a combination of food drive volunteers and postal service workers
making the rounds beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Remember that all collected
food stocks the shelves of our very own Hanover Food Pantry for our friends and
neighbors in need.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Anyone
still wishing to volunteer to sort donations can do so by e-mailing Sally
Lovett Boutin at kidsense@comcast.net.
They particularly still need some extra hands later in the afternoon on
Saturday. It’s not too late to sign-up!  Thanks!
