Have you been trying to figure out how to help the people fighting the
effects of the devastation of the earthquake in Haiti? Want an opportunity
to get your kids involved, too? Have them put on their youth basketball
shirts (or any Hanover shirt) and bring them on over to the high school not
only show their school spirit and watch a great game, but also to make a
donation to the Red Cross for Haiti.

Who: The Hanover High School National Honor Society, HHS Student Council,
and the HHS Junior Class are working with the HHS Girls Varsity Basketball
team to raise money for Haiti.

What: Hanover High School Girls Varsity versus Randolph basketball game

Where: Hanover High School Gym, Hanover High, Cedar Street

When: Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30 p.m.

Entrance fee waived…instead please make donations to the Red Cross for
Haiti.

Young adults at the Cardinal Cushing Center here in Hanover benefit from the
following fundraiser each year.and I am here to tell you that it is an
AMAZING event. Don’t miss it!

On Saturday, March 13th , beginning at 7:30 p.m., the annual St. Patrick’s
Day Dinner and Auction will bring people together at Indian Pond Country
Club in Kingston for a fun-filled evening of food, drink, and entertainment.
There will be raffles and a silent auction featuring great prizes. All
proceeds raised will go to the graduating students of the Cardinal Cushing
Centers for their Trip of a Lifetime to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

For so many young adults, a trip with friends is a rite of passage that
creates lasting memories. This experience is perhaps even more significant
to those graduating at 22 years old from Cardinal Cushing Centers than to
most. These students have faced and overcome challenges that previously
seemed insurmountable. They have made incredible strides toward becoming
independent, responsible and productive adults.

Businesses large and small, community leaders, neighbors and friends of
Cardinal Cushing Centers are encouraged to participate in supporting the
students who are of all faiths and backgrounds with developmental
disabilities and emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.

One of the things I love best about this little volunteer effort is that
you, my dear readers, are so willing to help.all in the name of the greater
good for our community. Little did I know that the following information
was even out there.until I heard from not one, but in fact two of you just
this afternoon. Libby Corbo (of "Halloween Candy for the Troops" fame) sent
along the following info and terrific directions:

Any member of the public can view oral arguments at the Supreme Judicial
Court by following this link:

http://www.suffolk.edu/sjc/

Once on that page, you can click on "view webcast" and it will display the
case being heard at that time. Typically several cases are scheduled for 9
a.m., and the order of argument is set by the court (in other words, if you
tune in at 9:00 a.m. and the High School case is not being heard, do not get
discouraged – just keep checking back). Also, the court archives its
arguments so those who cannot watch on March 1st can view the argument at a
later time (typically a few days later).

The Supreme Judicial Court for the Commonwealth will hear the court case
regarding the new Hanover High School on March 1st, 2010. This is contrary
to previous information that the case was going to be heard in the Appeals
Court in February. Court case SJC-10643, which is listed as "Kirk Fordyce
and others vs. the Town of Hanover and another", will be heard at 9:00 a.m.
on that day in the John Adams Courthouse, One Pemberton Square in Boston.

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

I am so thrilled to bring you the following update from Kerline Tofuri,
Hanover’s connection to the earthquake in Haiti. Godspeed, Kerline.

I leave for Haiti today with the Partners In Development Assessment Team. We
are flying out to the Dominican Republic, and from there to Haiti. After
this assessment, the medical teams will start to go to Haiti and will be
working in 3 or 4 different locations. Each medical team will take suitcases
of the medical supplies we have collected .

I would like to express my gratitude to all who had reached out by
calling/emailing as they continue to pray for my family and the people of
Haiti. Thank you to all who donated medical supplies/other necessary items
and those who made monetary donations. Thank you to all of the Hanover
children who are thinking of sending messages of hope to the children in
Haiti.

During the next two weeks, I will continue to collect medical supplies and
other items such as school supplies, clothing, toothbrushes, tents, and
French and low level English books for children. While I am away, all who
wish to donate can drop off supplies at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church,
located at 17 Church Street; office hours are 9 – 1 p.m., Monday through
Thursday.

Gardeners Invited – Free Lecture and Slide Show

Trees, Shrubs, Perennials, and Grasses that Bloom in Summer

Presented by Laura Eisener

The Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover invites members of the public to a
free lecture and slide show presentation on the best choices of plants for
your landscape that will withstand the "dog days" of summer and provide a
long season of bloom, colorful foliage and ornamental fruits to brighten the
garden.

Winter, when you can easily see the "bones" of the garden, is the best time
to think about summer and where you would like to see new plants. Many
gardens need a shot of color in July and August after spring flowers have
passed to enliven the background of green. Typically gardeners rely on
annuals for this purpose, but there are many trees, shrubs, perennials and
grasses that can provide mid-summer interest with a minimum of care.

Speaker Laura Eisener, a well-known Saugus landscape designer, has taught
for over 20 years at the Landscape Institute of Arnold Arboretum. In her own
landscape design firm she specializes in unique residential landscapes. She
is the 2007 Massachusetts Horticultural Society silver medal winner for
noteworthy accomplishments in the horticultural industry.
