Children’s photography workshop

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On Saturday, May 3 (1:00 – 3:00 p.m.), and again on Saturday, May 17
(10:00 – 11:30 a.m.), Rosemary Sampson and Jeanne McKenna will be back to
lead a Children’s Photography Workshop (2 sessions) at the John Curtis Free
Library.

The first class on May 3 will provide children with photography basics. The
second class on May 17 will be used to review what did and didn’t work.
Both Rosemary and Jeanne are award-winning photographers who met at the
South Shore Camera Club. Their programs are always popular! This workshop
is open to children ages 8-12 years for a $10 fee for each child (the
Friends of the John Curtis Free Library will fund the rest).

Space is limited to 15 participants so please sign up immediately at the
children’s circulation desk if you are interested (fee necessary at time of
registration)! All participants should bring a camera of some kind. Point
and shoot cameras work very well. For the second class, everyone should
bring in two 5 x 7 photographs of their work.

For more information about the program, please contact lcampbell@ocln.org ,
and for more information about the Friends of the John Curtis Library,
please contact tjmarchetti@verizon.net .

Matheny Baseball Camp

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Hanover High School varsity baseball captain Ryan Kelleher is again running
the Matheny Baseball Camp over April school vacation. This year he is
running the camp as a part of his Senior Humanities Project along with his
fellow senior baseball captain Drew Caldwell and Phil LeVangie.

Last year Ryan renamed the camp to the Matheny Baseball Camp to keep a
Hanover tradition going in memory of Stephen Matheny. As many readers will
know, Stephen Matheny was a hard working and dedicated athlete who wore the
Hanover name across his chest proudly. Ryan and his teammates intend to
keep Stephen’s legacy going by teaching the younger athletes of Hanover
about who Stephen was and what he stood for.

This year they have changed the camp to a Middle School Camp (grades 5 –
8). They will be using the high school fields so that the 7th and 8th
graders are on the Big League field.

The cost of the camp is $60. It includes instruction from varsity baseball
players, live games, and fun drills to go along with pizza and t-shirts.
They will also be giving each camper an individual evaluation sheet to
inform them what to work on.

This year’s camp will be held on:
April 21st, 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
April 22nd, 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
April 23rd OFF (varsity baseball doubleheader)
April 24th, 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon
April 25th, 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon

They will encourage all of the campers to attend the varsity doubleheader
at the High School on Wednesday April 23rd.

Attached please find the registration form. If you have any questions,
please contact Ryan at 781-264-5228 or rkelleher14@yahoo.com .

The cupola, privatization of the transfer station, and road reconstruction

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

On Monday, April 14, the cupola that graces the top of Hanover’s historic
Town Hall will be removed due to structural concerns. A crane will arrive
approximately 7:30 a.m. Come witness an important day in Hanover’s history
and find out where the cupola will be stored as we await the repairs.

Also on Monday the 14th, the Board of Public Works, Planning Board and
Board of Selectmen will meet at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss, among
other topics:
1) The potential privatization of the transfer station
2) Road and sidewalk reconstruction projects in Hanover that may result
in, among other options, dispensing with granite curbing and instead using
“Cape Cod berms”.

Busy day on Monday!

Joshua Perry Scholarship Golf Tournament

Dear fellow Hanoverians:
Sometimes messages for you come to me that need to be sent exactly as they
come in. This is one of them. Josh’s mother’s love for him is simply
brimming from what follows. Trust me, dear readers, when I tell you that
the e-mail correspondence I had with Jan leading up to this e-blast was
even more compelling. Thanks, Jan, for pulling us all in.

Tax ID: 46-1231705
2nd ANNUAL
JOSHUA PERRY
SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT
Welcome to the 2nd annual scholarship golf tournament in memory of Joshua,
who passed away 18 months ago at the young age of 17.
Josh was a very active kid who loved to ride his BMX bike for hours at a
time with his friends. He used to say that while he rode, he felt he was
free and could do anything. Along with riding, he loved to keep his
friends & family laughing with his little noises & one-liner remarks. Many
times those noises and remarks coupled with his smile and sense of humor
would reduce the trouble he would get himself into both at home and at
school. He had a very soft heart and would come to anyone’s defense, no
matter the cost. There is no doubt that he cherished his family and
friends.
With Josh’s heartfelt intentions, we are raising funds for another year
of scholarships to help students at the South Shore Vocational Technical
High School. He would love knowing we raised over $9,000 for our first time
coordinating such an event! These funds are marked for scholarships for
the graduating seniors. The applicants are asked to “pay-it-forward”
for a week and answer several questions in order to qualify for submission.
It’s the only scholarship that is action based. In addition, a portion
of the funds will be going to the Hanover Middle School for a tutoring
program. This program is to assist 8th grade students to academically
qualify for admission to the SSVT High School.
The fee to enter the tournament is $100 per player. To attend just the
barbecue is $30 (this includes 5 tickets for the raffles). Corporate and
individual sponsorships are needed in order to be successful, as well as
prizes, such as gift certificates, golf accessories, sports memorabilia,
gift baskets, etc. Fitbikeco., located in California, graciously donated a
new BMX bike for our raffle last year and has agreed to do so each year.
Thank you Fitbikeco.!
Sponsoring a hole is also available for $75 each. The sponsorship will
result in your name being prominently displayed at the green and will be
seen by all golfers and many others at the barbecue. We are seeking
sponsorships of an entire foursome to be offered to students and friends of
Josh’s that cannot afford to play. As a foursome sponsor, you are
invited to attend the barbecue following the tournament under the big tent.

As was last year, there will be many contests throughout the golf course to
win some cash and prizes.
Please visit www.joshuaperrytournament.stayclassy.org to register your team
or sponsor the tournament. If you would prefer to register or donate by
check, please send with the enclosed form to:

The Joshua Perry Memorial Fund
182 Old Farm Road
Hanover, MA 02339

If you would like additional information, please contact Jan Perry at
617-417-7818 or email at jcp1162@yahoo.com.
Thank you for all your help and support!
