What are you doing for dinner next Saturday?

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

What are you doing for dinner next Saturday? Those great cooks in the Hanover Lions Club have found an affordable way for you to feed your family and raise money all at the same time. It’s a great way to squeeze a delicious home-cooked meal into your busy spring schedule, too. My family and I have attended the last few years and I can personally vouch for the eggplant parm! Hanover Food Pantry volunteers needed

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

The
Postal Workers Annual Food Drive is almost here again!  It will be held
Saturday, May 9, 2009.  There will be a combination of food drive
volunteers and postal service workers making the rounds. The Hanover Food Pantry
is in serious need of volunteers on that day again this year.  What better
way to support residents of our town in need?  Please consider
volunteering at the food pantry!  It is also a great way for those who
need service hours to accrue some time for a good cause.

The
good folks at the Hanover Food Pantry need:

*
Drivers and gatherers (beginning as early as 9:00 a.m. or anytime up through
3:00 p.m.) to go out on assigned routes for food pick-up.  Take a long
route or a short route, no matter what; your help will be appreciated.

You’l l
be given a map, and you will bring the food you gather back to the pantry.

*
Sorters to be stationed at the pantry from 11:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., in two
hour shifts. Feel free to stay as long as you like. The food pantry will supply
water, soda, coffee or tea and PB&J sandwiches, along with hard work and a
good time.

Anyone
wishing to volunteer to drive and pick up or sort donations can do so by
e-mailing Sally Lovett Boutin at kidsense@comcast.net
or calling her at 781-826-6485, or on her cell at 781-799-0053.

Remember
that all collected food stocks the shelves of our very own Hanover Food Pantry
for our friends and neighbors in need. The food that is gathered each year at
the Postal Workers Annual Food Drive sees those in need through the summer when
the churches, civic organizations, schools and other groups stop or slow their
regular collections.  Your support will be greatly appreciated.
Regardless of your ability to volunteer to help that day, please don’t
forget to donate your food to the town-wide drive on May 9th!

Town Meeting is May 4th

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Mea culpa.  Town Meeting is May 4th, not March 4th
as in the previous e-mail.  (Remind me to not write e-mails with the kids running
amuck in the house on a rainy day.)

Good thing we didn’t miss it.  J

Town Meeting preparation

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Andy Port, our Assistant Town Administrator/Town Planner,
and Audrey Barresi, the Advisory Committee Secretary, have graciously been
keeping me abreast of the Advisory Committee’s progress regarding the
articles on the Annual Town Meeting warrant.  For those who are new to
this process, please understand that the Advisory Committee makes recommendations
on all of the various pieces of business that come before us at Town Meeting in
May.  Then, the AdComm makes the main motion on financial articles and the
sponsoring committee makes the main motion on non-financial article(s) that it
has put forward.  It is quite a preparation process that requires countless
hours of deliberation and debate by many dedicated volunteers here in town.

Andy just notified me yesterday that “the Warrant for
Hanover’s May 2009 Town Meeting (Special & Annual) with
the Advisory Committee Recommendations and Report of the Capital Improvement
Committee are now on the Hanover website (www.hanover-ma.gov).
Also available is information on Town Elections and Ballot Questions.”

Town Meeting is the purest form of democracy we have.
Don’t miss your chance to actively participate…start reading the
AdComm recommendations today!  Town Meeting begins Monday, March 4th.
See you there!

Rusty Skippers concert

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Do you like Boston Pops style music?  If so, then mark
your calendar for Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m.  The Rusty
Skippers will be performing at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church.  This concert
is the final one at St. Andrew’s this season and is a great way for families to
come and get a little Pops on the South Shore.  The Rusty Skippers are a
local 30 piece band.  The event is free and open to the public, but
donations will be gratefully accepted.

Blessing of the Bicycles at St. Andrew’s

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

There’s always something new going on at St.
Andrew’s.  I am so glad Rev. Beth uses “Around Town on the
Web” for her many outreach programs.  Here’s the latest:

Bring your bikes, trikes, and skateboards to St. Andrew’s
(17 Church St.) this Saturday, April 11th at 9:30 a.m. for the
“Blessing of the Bicycles”.  We will gather in front of the
church; but don’t be late as it’s a quick ceremony, and then you can
continue on your ride.  Start off the biking season with a blessing, and
be sure to wear your helmet!

Wednesday night hours at Town Hall

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

This just in from the Selectmen’s Office!

The Selectmen’s Office is pleased to let
everyone know that the first week of new hours at Town Hall went smoothly
without a hitch.  We invite all residents to take advantage of our new 12
hour Wednesday (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.).  On our first Wednesday schedule,
we had twenty-two visitors who conducted business with the Town Clerk, three
residents who conducted business with the Tax Collector and six people
conducted business with the Department of Municipal Inspections.  So keep
in mind if you need to conduct business at Town Hall, you can now do so on
Wednesdays until 8:00 p.m.
